Self-introduction and the breath as a friend
Book 2 · The Kriya lineage: Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Yogananda and Guruji's own line Also: Kriya Yoga practice, Living well: emotions, love, family, work and money
My name is Shailendra Sharma. Yes. And I am a disciple in the lineage of Kriya Yoga. My Guru's name was Satya Charan Lahiri. He was a disciple of Tinkori Lahiri, who was the son and disciple of Shyamacharan Lahiri, who was a disciple of Babaji Maharaj, whose name we do not know, so I am just representing them. I am the fifth representative of this lineage. I will tell you a few very basic, simple things. Any man or woman is searching for a true friend. Okay? But they fail because of one thing; the most important thing in their life, they never become friends with it. Your breath; you are breathing from the day you are born until the last day when you die. But we never ever try to make
our breath our friend. And this is the only thing we call the vibration of life; it is inside us. It is directly connecting us with the spirit inside. And I will say, if you make your breath your friend, You will begin to share this air With every living being on this planet, and there will be peace, friendship, love, and so many good things you can think of. So my message is: make your breath your friend, and you will be friendly to everything. Whoever is breathing will be your friend. This is the first time in history that 27 Rudraksha trees have been planted in this area because,

climatically, it is not possible to plant them, and they are planted in a cremation area, so they are the only 27 Rudrakshas in a cremation spot. See, all these are Rudrakshas; are there special properties to the Rudraksha? Well, they are supposed to have come from the eyes of Shiva. So they carry a very holy vibration. Yes, and most of the Rudrakshas in our trees are three-faced. So, three-faced means the representation of Dattatreya with three faces. Okay? I will give you one. I have not given it to you yet. So today, I will give you one. All these are 27 Rudrakshas. And this is our Shiva temple. We found
a natural Shivling in Govardhan Hill. For the first time in the history of Govardhan Hill, a natural Shivling has been found, which we have installed exactly on the cremation spot of the late King of Bharatpur, Jaswant Singh. Okay, his period is supposed to be the golden period of the Bharatpur dynasty. He was a great man. So this is the monument where he was cremated, and he made it very clear that you must build my monument as a wooden structure because he considered it pure. So, he died in 1893, so maybe it was finished in 1894. So this is it, so many people in the

West Yes They spend so much time trying to make their lives happening, to get money, to get their basic needs; and yet, based on what you told me, all of these things seem to just come to you. Now, how is it possible? How is it possible that someone in the West might apply these principles in their lives? I will say unless you have received Guru Kripa, the direct blessing from a real Guru, Nature will never support you. All these things are possible because when Nature begins to support you, Mother will provide everything. But you will need to work very hard for it. You don't have to do business or go for a job, but working hard to please Nature is no easy thing. Hmm. Okay, hmm. So these are all cremation areas for
the kings. And in this area, this is their family, and this area six kings from the Bharatpur dynasty were cremated along with their queens and other family members. And this is a very sacred place, I would say, because this is the center of the Govardhan Hill where Krishna's queens were cremated and then six kings of the Bharatpur dynasty. I mean, it is amazing to see six kings cremated in one premises. So I will say it is my privilege to be here. It's a grace from Babaji, grace from my Guru, and grace from Shiva himself and Govardhan here. He is considered as a living God in India. Okay? And I will say one miracle has happened in this area; the natural
water level was very low, but since we have planted more than 100,000 trees for seven or eight years, the water level has come up. You just dig about 7 feet and you will find water, see, that is natural water there. What was the story of Govardhan the hill? Actually, it was, let's say, a revolution against Vedic times, Vedic gods. Krishna stopped the worship of Indra, the chief god of the Vedas, and started the worship of this hill, and that is how it began. And I think, instead of worshipping all the gods who demanded so many sacrifices, he was giving a message to worship Mother
Earth, Nature herself in the form of this hill. And this is what I am trying to do here, to make the Mother happy. And so, Krishna lifted, he lifted the entire thing. 5,000 years back, and after that, his queens came here, and they heard the Bhagavata story, and they became Krishna-conscious and died here. And they were cremated here. So this land is the biggest cremation ground on Earth, or perhaps in all of creation, and it is my privilege to be here and take care of it. Hmm. You can just be here and think, and think, and think. Look, such a big crow. It's a rare

sight. So, what do crows signify? Indeed, crows are loved by Lord Shiva, but there is the story of one immortal crow. His name is Kakbhushundi and his story, you can read it in the Yoga Vashistha. Hmm, and he says that he became immortal by knowing the essence of Prana and Apana, and he is the only immortal crow who has seen Shiva dancing the dance of destruction, Tandav, many times. So that is why Shiva loves him. He sits on a tree, or rather, he sits in the tree. He sits on a tree somewhere, which he creates himself by imagining it, and then he lives there. The only
entertainment for him is to wait for the dance of Shiva. I think the best entertainment. And are people coming from Russia and all over the world? Yes. Many people from Russia and from other places as well. Hmm. But as I keep saying, I am an Earthling; I live on this planet. Every human being who comes with good feelings is welcome, that's it. And I think that will be the beginning of peace, when we learn how to share what we have with others too. And the first feeling is to share this planet equally , willingly, and gladly with everyone. Only then will there be peace; otherwise, the Earth is already in

pieces. So what practical things can people do in the West to bring peace into their own lives and into the lives of others? First, I think they should be more in tune with themselves. As long as they continue to react to other people and to society in general, there is never going to be peace. So, instead of reacting, they should learn how to act in the proper way. And to act, they will need to develop some consciousness of their own, and be in tune with their own nature. Then maybe, how can this be accomplished to develop that consciousness? I would say, live with nature and practice yoga. You say the general behavior of society
is mostly reaction. Hmm. A reaction to some reaction, then again a reaction, and the original act disappears. So, learn not to react; start acting, and you will have the desired effect. Hmm. Peace. Hmm. And do you see, might there be some consequences if people don't start living in tune with Mother Earth? You see it is happening, what else is happening? Whatever is happening all over the world, it is because we are not living in tune with the Mother. Hmm. I will say another thing, just an observation. You look into the history of mankind, so many civilizations have appeared and have disappeared, from Roman civilization, Egyptian, so many things.
But notice one thing, Aborigines and villagers who live very near to nature, they always survive. Think on that. Civilizations come and they go, from Atlantis to the Roman Empire, every empire disappears. So the best thing is not to create an empire. I think, one man asked me that, "What type of youth do you envision in the future?" I said that he is just wearing a loincloth, okay, having a spade in his hand, working on his farm in the fields, but he said, and a laptop is just lying
there under the tree, or another way he is swinging in the trees like Tarzan, say I-O-R, but he is carrying a mobile and a small palmtop in his loincloth. So that means you must use high technology but always remain in tune with basic nature, then only will you survive peacefully. What do you see as being the greatest obstacle to people developing their own consciousness? We are the biggest obstacle; we have to— that is why we need to overcome ourselves only, we are the biggest obstacles. Thank you. But you know, I

Fear of death, Gaiman's definition of life, the body as temple
Book 4 · Dying: knowing death and the fear of death Also: Kriya Yoga practice, Body, health, food and celibacy
mean many people in the West have an overwhelming fear of death. How can people overcome it? I think all over the world they have an overwhelming fear of death. Hmm. So by making your breath your friend, you will be making your death your friend as well. Hmm. Unless and until you make death your friend, you are not going to find peace . Because from the moment of birth, death is walking by your side. Hmm. So, accept it, respect her, and be friendly with her. Hmm. That is good. Sir is saying, by falling in love with the breath, one naturally overcomes the fear of death. You see, if you make your breath your friend, it is not going to leave your body. Because you are not friendly, so one
day it stops being your friend and leaves; so it all begins with friendship with yourself. I have given you the essence of Kriya Yoga. The whole Kriya Yoga science is centered around making your breath your friend. Hmm, leave these things to philosophers to decide; we will simply. So as I was saying, I love American comics and some very profound knowledge has come to me from reading comics there. Now, the comics are very great. I love them. And one of my favorite writers is Neil Gaiman. I was reading one of his comics . Death is the heroine of that comic, and somebody is asking, "What do you
think, what is life?" And what an answer he writes there! And Death is answering, "You see, life is a disease, sexually transmitted and invariably fatal." And in my opinion, this is the most accurate description of what life is, according to Neil Gaiman. Okay. Wonderful! And no philosopher has been able to observe this simple fact, "Life is a disease sexually trans..." and you are saying before that, the fear of death is overcome by overcoming the fear of non-existence or death. In fact, the moment you begin to understand life and death, there is no
fear; it is just a matter of understanding, just a matter. You are talking about how the body is a temple and I was remarking how you never see a modern gym in a cremation ground. Most people are either busy worshipping the past or they are busy rejecting the past, and they are yogis. Yoga means union. What is union? Perfect union with your past and your contemporary things. And why not all these things? I think great people invented them; they studied hard. And if the body is a temple, why not do something to keep it in good shape? It will make you feel good also. And here

Ātmā and body, the ancient cremation site, mudgars
Book 1 · Training, strength and exercise Also: Guruji's life, the Darshan room and humour, Scriptures, myths and their meaning
I will tell you another secret: go to a Sanskrit dictionary again, find the word 'Atma', which most people translate as spirit or soul; you will see the body and Atma are synonyms; they mean the same. We are standing in the most ancient cremation site of India, where 16,000 wives of Krishna were cremated. And this property was built by the Bharatpur dynasty because a holy man told them that if you are cremated in this area, you will get liberation. So, this is the cremation spot of King Baldev Singh, and six kings were cremated here in this area. So, it is my privilege that I have been
living here for the last nearly 19 years. And what I am going to show you —not exactly a demonstration, just showing you what we do every day—is that this equipment is a very ancient equipment of India. It is called Mudgar . It is not only a physical exercise, but it is a very good thing to develop very high-intensity concentration, extreme focus, and extreme awareness. And it will regularize your breath. And as I was telling you earlier, maybe by starting this, you may be a friend to your own breath, which in turn will introduce you to your soul inside. You are connected, your body and soul are connected with your breath. Make your
breath your friend, it will introduce you to your soul, and maybe when your soul is your friend, it will introduce you to the creator himself. Okay! Such a simple thing, but it goes a long way. And maybe this is the only good gym in the area, maybe one and only in the world. Okay! So That is how it is done. You have to run and focus. Okay!

Not a master; Lucifer and Eve; peace
Book 2 · Humour, films, comics, tea and the Darshan room Also: Religions, history, society and science
It's hard because when you are in the presence of a master, a lot of times all the questions Don't take me as a master, I am a very ordinary disciple, I am just a beginner in yoga. Yeah. Remember that, and wisdom begins the moment you realize your ignorance. I think I know nothing. I am just a beginner. It's a golden light. Beautiful, and this light is golden; without light, there is nothing, but even then, they call the light-bringer the devil. Hmm, I don't understand this. Is it possible that in the pantheon, the Christian pantheon, they screwed up with Lucifer and Well, I have absolutely no idea because I haven't read the Bible. Yeah. And I am a Hindu, I am not a Christian,

so I will say that when the devil actually offered the fruit to Eve, he just wanted to say be vegetarian. That's what he meant. And he was a gentleman because he never took advantage of a naked innocent woman. Hmm. Or a naked innocent man; rather, he made them wear clothes. Hmm. That is enough to prove him a gentleman to me. I don't know what Christians are thinking, but as a Hindu, I am thinking this. Well, I think I am not a high enough person to give blessings, but I will give my best wishes to everybody. Who wants peace, because it is high time that we start thinking about peace. Because without peace, I don't see humanity surviving for long. And I, I
take my hat off to those people who are working very hard for peace. And as I say, make your breath your friend and start sharing what you have with less privileged ones. Think, this is a space , is that you are a human being. Everybody has the equal right to share this planet, as I do. So respect each other, respect life, and with that respect, some love will come and tolerance will develop and you will begin to share. And I think, by sharing you will finally have peace. Thank you. Having peace is better than resting in peace.
