ABOUT GURUJI’S BOOKS

About Guruji's Books: literary recollections, training, Shiva worship, society and compassion

ABOUT GURUJI’S BOOKS

Sometimes i wondering: Your books ended up in a strange places sometimes: one copy of Gita went to the White house during Bill Clinton’s organization; one copy of Gita reached prime minister of Nepal;

Guruji: and UN also

whom brought it to UN?

Guruji: same: Mr. Sushil Kashyap: he gave it to Cofi Annan and Indian, represeted UN permanent- that one. 2-3 copies went into UN

and how he sent it to UN?

Guruji: he simply went there and said - i want to gift you one.

British library selected Your “Gorakhbodh”, include to the collection

Guruji: yes

any other unusual recepients or places? I know that Dayamata also received the copy

Guruji: yes, Dayamata received the copy- secretly, because she was sick then; we received letter from them also.

where else it was sent?

Guruji: almost everywhere: almost every prominent leader and all the sadhus- they all received. Nagas also received it.

which Nagas?

Guruji: My disciple went to Kumbha Mela, i told him how to approach Nagas, so he did a research on it: he gave my copy of Gita to many prominent sadhus within the Chief members of Nagas; and they all treat him very well. Hilarious photos: he was standing like Mahatma Gandhi and two tall naked Nagas standing with him.

i just think that the books have their own life

Guruji: i think so, yes

but for You this work was a necessity: to get this answers out?

Guruji: I think so, yes: it was boiled inside me ad once triggered it was just came out in 21 days.

You also said that when You worked on Shiva sutras it was more like a climax of Your work on Bhagavad Gita?

Guruji: i think so because I finished it i one single day, full work on Shiva sutras- only 77 sutras. And Yoga Sutras took me 4 days, because I was writing it myself, so 1 chapter in one day and 1 day Shiva Sutras. 3 days “Pathik”. I think 8 days for Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Gorakhbodh took a longer time. And it maybe the deepest and most mysterious thing I’ve ever come across. And I can tell you: when I was dictating Gita’s commentary, Yoga Darshan- a mind was not capable enough to tackle Gorakhbodh, and I felt it myself. It took living in smashan, Shiva worship and dhuni to bring it all together.

Commentaries, Immortality, Babaji

Commentary effort, uncertain dates, Gwalior legends, faith/hope and Nature guidance

Commentaries, Immortality, Babaji

Guruji: "Sometimes I feel that if I hadn't been working out with Mudgars (heavy Indian clubs) or Bullworker, I would have had nervous breakdown in Gwalior itself - commentary on Gita, Yoga Dardhan, Shiva Sutra took such a tremendous effort! I'm glad that I had been doing body-building which is why I was able to tolerate the experience. See for yourself - anybody who has done commentary on Gita didn't live much longer after that. Except for Sri Krishna, he lived for 36yrs after saying Gita.

"It has been 12 years now. I don't feel like looking at my books again - may be the mental fatigue of the work is still there in the mind. I answer when someone asks a question about my commentary, otherwise I don't talk about them. Repetition of what I said 12 years ago get a little bit irksome. A yogi's mind continues to develop. These books clarify the fundamental understanding. In the last 12 years, a lot of intricate details and peculiarities have become clearer now. Mr X came the other day to discuss my commentary on Gita. It was my good fortune that he developed fever the next day and I was spared (laugh). If you can live with Mr. X for 2 months, you'll definitely becomeparamhansa. See, I'm telling you a short-cut to achieve paramhansa state. And if you don't become paramhansa, will have to put you in a mental asylum and bring you flowers (laugh). God really listens in difficult times. I was getting very concerned about the impending doom (laugh)."

..

"You must have noticed that your face looks younger after practice. Sometimes I feel that the secret of Babaji's immortality is hidden in these yoga practices. Otherwise the change in skin tone or the younger look on the face would not have been possible."

"Guruji, why the old gurus, Lahiri Mahasaya and others, did not maintain a young look or live a long life?"

Guruji: "Lahiri Mahasaya's case was different. Babaji had given him specific objective, which he was able to successfully accomplish with single-minded and concentrated work. His body also didn't have the qualities required for preservation for longevity. Your body needs to be qualified to be immortal. These yoga practices that I teach have been introduced after a long time. I do feel there's something about it, somewhere there's the secret of immortality hidden in it. The body gets stronger with age and the looks remain the same. Of course, the brain also develops, which is the key objective. I have observed one more difference. My aura has turned bright white now. It used to look golden but now it is crystalline white. This change came about in the past few months. Outer edges are golden but inner area is crystalline white, and it is as bright as before. It's a sign of progress."

"In Oscar Wilde's novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray", the picture grows old but Dorian Gray doesn't. What do you think about this story?"

Guruji: "I've read it. It's a psychological novel like Dr Jekyll and Hyde, that every person has an other side. I really like his work. His story 'The Canterville Ghost' is quite hilarious! Have you read it? It's very funny. Actually it's a satire on a typical American family."

"I've also observed that sometimes the expression or the mood in a photograph appears to change. Is it psychological or does it really happen?"

Guruji: "It actually happens. What is a photograph? It's a likeness. That means, if there's a strong connection between you and the person in the photograph, like with your parents or Guru, or if the person is mentally very powerful, you may see their expressions change on special occassions. It's a communication link. For example, Babaji'smurti (idol, effigy) has sometimes totally different expressions on his face! Many people have seen that, way too many. Day before yesterday, some people observed smile on the face of our Hanumanji's murti. They got very scared.

"I've observed that with my photograph taken at the cottage (in Gwalior). My looks and expressions keep changing in that photograph. Some days it looks very powerful, some days very weak. Some days the face is very bright, sometimes irritated. This means that whatever is my mood that day gets reflected in that picture. "

"You had mentioned the look in Babaji's eyes."

Guruji: "Yeah, his eyes have a verrry ancient look in them. When you look at his physical appearance, he looks like a young man - you can probably place him in 35-40 years. But when you look into his eyes, they have a very ancient look. The impressions appear very ancient. This is sort of expected. What you experience is registered in your mind, and eyes reflect your mind. An immortal being's eyes reflect all his experiences! He has a very penetrating gaze. It feels like he can see through you. You also feel very nervous in front of him. which is but natural. My last meeting with him was 9 years ago (Dec 1995). There hasn't been any meeting in person since then. Even the second meeting was 7 years after the first one (April 1st, 1988). Let's see what happens next."

FINAL EXORCISM FOR IMMORTAL

Age 44, commentaries and achievement frames

now I'm 44: so I must live much longer to communicate( smiling) ?

Guruji: long gaps are appearing. When I was 44 it was already 10 years after doing commentaries on Gita, Yoga Sutras and Shiva Sutras

we still achieve nothing

Guruji: according to Gautama Buddha it’s a biggest achievement

but not unique: so many people achieved the same.

GURU Introduction

Self-introduction

how You will introduce yourself, Guruji?

Guruji: well, very simply; my name is Shailendra Sharma. I’m a very ordinary and simple man, I’m Indian, I’m a Hindu; I do puja to my kula devata – which is Shiva and I practice what my Guru taught me. This simple thing of my introduction.

HIGH STANDARD IN YOGA

Five books in thirteen months

It’s an impossible situation: in a centre of parikrama, in a smashan, in a square house we are discussing all these things. It cannot be a coincidence. When I did my first parikrama, went back home: within 3 weeks Gita’s commentaries were completed. It cannot happen anyway without His grace. In 13 months I wrote 5 books and the subject is deeper and deeper – as we going.

EFFECT OF READING THE GITA AND RAMAYANA

Sade-sati, Saturn and recollections

Tolerance, the Gita commentary, the changed brain and the balance

I remember how You describe the feelings after first experience – the tingling feeling in the whole body?

Guruji: after 15 minutes it was less. Then you develop a certain strength and tolerance to it. It should increase slowly. I think if first experience was not there – I don’t think Babaji would have ever come. he was aware of this .

the mental activity second time was the same?

Guruji: no, much better; within 2 years I wrote a commentary on Gita, that took me 21 days. Mind is different after that. And I continue to workout as well.

within 5 years the brain has changed its structure?

Guruji: everything is different, yes.

how long it took to You to go to samadhi every day?

Guruji: after second experience – every day.

You put the inner clock for 15 minutes, what then?

Guruji: then I became more bo lder. We need to learn to make a balance: physical tolerance and that thing. That is the main game.

It is one thing to take 2 packs of vodka every day and another thing to become an alcoholic. Maintain the balance!

He plans all the things in such a way that when you’re going through it you’re not aware what’s happening with you. Only after some years you look back – then you find it has a pattern and somebody was actually guiding you to it.

PHYSICAL BODY OR MIND

Books and stories that changed his mind

Could You mention some other book – except “Autobiography of the yogi” – which changed Your mind and perception?

Guruji: Yes; I will just tell you a few – read “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, it is still my favorite. And “Ugly duckling” from H.C. Andersen – fantastic story, I remember it. There was another story which I read about 25 years back: “But for this” – find it; I don’t remember the author, only the name. There are thousands of stories which I like.

do You still read novels?

Guruji: Whenever I have time, yes. I have a very big collection. Maybe that book, which I had gotten near 1980 – Jonathan seagull – is still with me. Whoever doesn’t believe in fairy-tales and never read comics – cannot become a good Guru.

Like in ”Alice in Wonderland” : you need to believe in 12 unbelievable things before the breakfast?

Guruji: Yes, amazing story. They are really inspiring people!

Why to Perform Parikrama

Why to Perform Parikrama

My whole life changed after my first parikrama. I suddenly began to write.

After Divali we worshipped Govardhan which is worshipped all over India. We make it with cow’s damp and worship. So when we were doing parikrama round it, somebody suggested to go to original Govardhan and perform parikrama there. I said: “Okay, let’s go”. So we went on December 31st at night. It was Dattatreya Purnima, Datta Purnima.

And as we’re yogis, we were just wearing the dhoti. We did parikrama at night and it was very cold. When we came back, one disciple asked me a question — we picked up Bhagawat Gita and the commentary began. And it was ready in twenty one days only and soon published. After it something came over me. I thought that I had to go to Vrindavan. So on 2nd of October I went there with four cows, two Doberman dogs, twelve disciples and only two thousand rupees in my pocket. All my disciples spent all the money on food in one day and went back thinking: “How will he survive?” And it was a miracle how I survived – it was the ninth month of leaving home when I owned this place miraculously.

So doing a parikrama changed everything in my life. And I wrote four books in a few days — before that I had never written an essay. And I was not a very brilliant student in my college time. I preferred to read James Bond to my text book. There is some extraordinary power here in Govardhan which is very difficult to explain. I was the most famous unemployed person, I have never done any work to earn money in my life. Somehow after parikrama everything has been going on very well. That is why I say — go and do a parikrama. I am sure your life will improve after it. My life has improved.

Some Flowers And Some Thorns

Some Flowers And Some Thorns

When I shall depart from here may my parting message read like this — “ I have dispensed whatever best I had. I have bestowed all my treasure to whoever came to me, always removed thorns form the hurt hearts and embellished them with flowers; trade I did was such that I took the worst of others and gave all my best. My only distress is that I could not dispense the delight of doing all this to others.” May thus be my parting message when I shall depart form here.

Those who think they know me; perfectly imperfect

Those who feel that they know me better than I know myself; do not know that they know nothing. After I realized this, I prefer to speak nothing.

Yes, I am a perfect man. I can stand up and declare before the entire world that I am perfect. Let someone point out a flaw in my imperfection. I am perfectly imperfect. Nowhere there is any flaw in my imperfection. Yes, I am perfect, a perfect man!

Mystical stories | Shree Shailendra Sharma

Mystical stories | Shree Shailendra Sharma

I saw Babaji first time in 2nd april 1988 and he told me those pranayamas. I came back and begin to practice and in a very short time the time and space matter, the consciousness of this simply begins inside me; I begin to be aware of these things. And it grew more and more and more. And I think nearly it reach climax, when I came here to Govardhan to do my first parikrama. And I suffered so much in that parikrama that all these thoughts fell in alignment – they were very clear. And went we went back, one man simply ask me a question and the flow begin. It just blasted on him and that’s how the commentary came.

I think it is exactly as the result of meeting Babaji and the sadhana which he give. After written Gita’s commentary situation begin bad with my relatives and family, so I left my town. Landed in Vrindavan and some disciples would come from Gwalior and they will continue to ask me questions – so I decided to write the commentary on Yoga Darshan. One chapter every day – and it was done. It took four days, because I wrote it long in myself. I think writing these two commentaries warn me up to write Shiva Sutras. Then some questions come on Shiva Sutras, and I decided to write one commentary, which I did in one day – 17 hours to be precise. So many brakes in between – I was talking like this and writing at the same time. It was the climax of all that things. Because all this yoga and all those blessings of the great beings I was able to understand what is written in the shlokas, what is meaning, – so I simply just wrote it.

But writing a commentary on Shiva Sutras gave me the greatest of satisfaction – I considered it as my best work. Of course, Gita is good, Yoga Darshan is good, Shiva Sutras are the best. It looks like that three great beings came together, for a meeting after hundred thousand of years and they are simply said their own experience. I will say with all honesty, that much discuss is enough for beings so high. No more is needed to say. You are practicing yoga, so your understanding of this will develop more and more.

In Shiva Sutras are three chapters. So every being is giving a different version of the same thing. This names are unknown. Maybe Shiva, Shakti and some other yogi. This is my assumption, because there are three chapters – Shambho upaya, Shakto upaya and Anu upaya – it looks like three men just gave their experience. It is the most mysterious work I have ever come across in all my life so far. No match for Shiva Sutras. Maybe three heads of Dattatreya are talking. And I think it was ready inside me, that’s why I was able to finish the work in one day. But it’s small work, only 77 sutras – no big enough. Before writing Yoga Darshan and Shiva Sutras I had to leave home, I had to leave my home town and was going through so many nervous situations – at that time the masterpiece came.

… we assume, that it maybe Hanuman. Because always on the left side, absolute gold dancing shadow will be seen – like of a tall man, very slim, long-haired and bare-bodied. But there was no identity given. When I’ve reach a certain tempo in dictation – it begins from third chapter – his appearance will take place. And anybody, who was present in the room, was able to see him. All of them; because 6-7 people were sitting – I was talking very fast, it getting very fast – they are all writing down and they all see him. Those were fantastic days. First time I think a touch of miracle, a touch of divinity they feel. Same in Vrindavan also.
