YAMA AND NIYAMA AHIMSA
question about Yama and Niyama principles from Yoga Sutras Patanjali: how much they are applicable to the practitioner of Kriya yoga?
Guruji: as much as you can; and they will develop slowly as a result of your practice.
what about ahimsa principle: if some fly is biting – could we kill the fly?
Guruji: ok
but will it spoil our karma?
Guruji: no.
then what is the difference between killing the fly and go for hunting on boar?
Guruji: boar is a different thing; hunting I don’t support. To all the meat- eaters: if you want to eat meat – then go, hunt, and eat. Don’t buy from the butcher.
the life example about ahimsa principle: if the dog is attacking you and the only way to survive is to shoot?
Guruji: do it!
but again we will go against ahimsa principle then?
Guruji: planned violence is not recommended. That is to save yourself.
so if something puts your life to the border of life and death – you’re not thinking about ahimsa principle, you’re thinking about surviving?
Guruji: that is human nature: to survive.
on the other end it could be applicable to our life also: to remain alive in such situation- it’s also ahimsa?
Guruji: yes. In extreme emergency no rules are applicable: main thing is somehow to survive.
is this principle applicable for saying the truth, like satya? Could we lie if it will not hurt someone and even could save the life or to help?
Guruji: why not? Yes. See, if you’re worrying to much about ahimsa – that means you’re not too much into practice( smiling). Deeper understanding will develop with the development of your consciousness. When you will establish yourself in absolute ahimsa – you will not survive. There is a battle going in your body: your immune system is continuously fighting and killing. Don’t take it too far!
so all the principles about good and bad are only social things, which were created by humans?
Guruji: but there are greater rules, natural laws, which are beyond the social things. And I’ve told you about forgiveness, remember that? When your enemy is hanging from his feet, naked, absolutely under your control; and you have a razor – you can do anything with that enemy: then you say – I forgive you, now you go! That will be forgiveness. If you’re in no position to do anything to whatever person you’re having – then it’s nothing. If nobody is asking for forgiveness – then why are you saying “ I forgive you”? just a demonstration of extremely weakness.
so with the development of the practice we will understand these questions much more deeper?
Guruji: much more deeper understanding will definitely happen. You will know exactly, how to behave. Otherwise what is the use of developing your mind and consciousness? Your perspective of life will become very different.
