YOGAŚ CITTA-VṚTTI-NIRODHAḤ

Spirit, God and consciousness within; misconception and nirvāṇa

God is in your heart. Consciousness in the mind. That means consciousness, the spirit, and God is part of my physical existence. Tell me if I'm wrong. So, simply by understanding your physical existence, you will reach these great powers which are inside. Very simple, actually. Very I said many times, what controls our mind? Our misconceptions control our mind. Argue to keep our misconceptions. We kill, we fight to keep our conception that my misconception is right, yours is wrong. That is another misconception. So, when your mind is free from

misconception, that is true nirvana.

APHORISMS

Aphorisms: kutastha communication, nonduality, dreams, karma and Earth's mind

Guruji: it’s a reaction on the society and your family. And money is the essence of society. If you are in the society -most of your thoughts are the reaction to some situation. If you’re inside commercial society – you will have commercial thoughts.

that’s how desires come?

Guruji: or you see someone having something better and you also want it. So many emotions triggered – jealousy, greed, this and that.

That’s why yogis were smart: they say if you want to be in the situation to observe the society – do nothing. Then only your mind will be free from commercial thoughts, then you’ll be in the situation to observe. If you’re inside it – you’ll be always acting; and without observation you will never learning.

it’s very difficult

Guruji: no, it’s not difficult, it’s just a strong discipline. Everything is difficult – even to make some money is difficult.

I still couldn’t understand: how formless get the form?

Guruji: it is formless – so it can take any form.

CHRISTIANITY; RELICS; EXORCISM; FORTUNE-TELLING; PROTECTION FROM ENEMIES; CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

Relic restraint, uncertain exorcism, unsafe alchemy claims, reactions and karma subtraction

It’s not like – once you become aware and it stops – it continues. If you become aware of yourself – you will also become aware of other selves. Your point of view and perspective will change. So many things will be different.

it happened with You when You went to Samadhi?

Guruji: it starts before that.

it starts when You just start practice yoga?

Guruji: after you gone a little bit in yoga practice – then awareness starts.

it comes suddenly?

Guruji: it is always step by step. It took 37 for you to be 37. No more, no less.

but I’ve did nothing for that

Guruji: after becoming self-aware you will be in position to do something.

Actually you’re not reacting to yourself. The first reaction starts from someone else’action. Then your thoughts become so disturbed by so many reactions – you start reacting on the reaction.

if I just woke up and saw or heard nobody and nothing?

Guruji: it’s the situation you creating for yourself.

so I have no reactions?

Guruji: no-no, just lamenting on the situation you have created. It is a sort of reaction on yourself. Not everybody is smart enough to create favorable reaction for himself or herself. That takes time. If you become more self-aware – then you will stop reacting. You need development of your mind. We all need that.

Here going my famous quotation: Newton said, that in physics every action has its equal opposite reaction.

I’ve added one line more: every action has its equal and opposite reaction – it also means that every reaction has its equal and opposite action also.

If you act in the certain way – you can get a reaction you desire. Think on that.

your action and your reaction?

Guruji: no, it’s general statement, not self-centered here.

if you do the right action – you always have?

Guruji: only the result will tell you, whether it was right or not. In the beginning nobody knows.

what is right?

Guruji: another social impact – what is right and what is wrong.

FALSE EGO OR SELF CONFIDENCE

when the person is very much proud of something – anyway his ego will go very high so he becomes arrogant? And if the person is humble – his ego is always low?

Guruji: if he is not acting to be a humble person!

Many humble people have bigger ego - they only act like that. It’s a religious thing: egoless person serving the Lord always.

It’s a different thing. Yogis start to study their own ego, make it very refined and kept it. And sometimes people cannot differentiate between self-confidence and ego.

Many so-called humble people take a self-confident person as an arrogant person – and they are wrong there: self-confidence is a very different thing.

You must have self-confidence. Here I will say: the more confidential things you will discover inside you - the more self-confidence you will have.

sometimes when I observe myself my ego sometimes saying that I’m different from another people…

Guruji: then it statements a fact: you’re different than others! So why not accept the fact?

it doesn’t need to be suppressed?

Guruji: it needs to be studied! You need to know about it. And I’m sure – nobody will say this to you: everybody will say – get rid of it, suppress it.

You should know exact nature of your ego, whatever you have inside. That is real struggle. And then – discover your potential: every possibility which you’re carrying – you should develop it to the maximum: otherwise how you will discover your limits? There is no other way!

when we will develop our consciousness and somehow discover our limit: is it real? Or it’s just our thought that it’s the limit – but it’s not the limit?

Guruji: you will know exactly. No doubt will remain. This is not a hypothetical thing: we’re talking about real discoveries.

And discussing with Shailendra Sharma will give you new ideas – so you can think on it and discover that wisdom inside you.

but it’s more important to ask You directly than through translation?

Guruji: anyway! It’s a way of communication. You have just started to practice: as your consciousness will grow – your awareness will grow, more things come to your mind and you will need to discuss them.

so any question can be asked?

Guruji: this is my way: I like one-to-one conversation. I’m not giving one side lecture. This communication is good for learning. Otherwise what is the use? You will never find a preacher doing this or any holy man doing this: one-sided dialogue – that’s it.

ARROGANCE OR SELF-CONFIDENCE

Watch the video

Arrogance and self-confidence. It’s easy to achieve arrogance, but very difficult to achieve self-confidence. And how we can differentiate?

Self-confidence is a result of self-awareness. When you become aware of the very confidential things inside you. Your confidence will grow.

In arrogance, you are not even aware what is inside you. It is just a put-up job. I am somebody, I am this and that.

A self-confident person doesn’t have to boast. World will point out to him and appreciate, but they never appreciate an arrogant person.

In fact, what I have seen so far in my time, nobody likes an arrogant person, but many people love the company of a confident person.

So we have to think more deeply of these two things.

How the practitioner, can recognize himself that, yes, this is self-confident, this is not arrogance.

Self-confidence is a result of your deep yoga-practice, because you are exploring yourself, trying to find and become aware who you are. Arrogance will come: oh, I am initiated into such a great lineage. I am far more superior than all the idiots in that place. That is arrogance. Stay away from that.

That is the biggest hider progress I know. Be careful. Thank you.

DIKSHA

Ego versus false ego

EGO VS FALSE EGO

what is ego?

Guruji: why are you worrying about it? It’s a word, started by psychologists. Is it so important to you? Your ego might be the only personal thing you have. You need to understand it and you need to study it; and you need to develop it in a very pure way. Take it to the sublime heights instead of creating a false ego. False ego is very bad – but the genuine ego is always your friend.

what is false ego?

Guruji: you decide. If you can’t even recognize your ego – then what progress you can making? Reading books is one thing; but recognizing your own ego – from there realization begins. And leave that things for scholars – those who studies psychology and philosophy. We’re yogis, we’re more practical. Our ego is not bothering us. It might be the only friend we have.

You see the trick here? In the name of non-attachment you’re asked to leave your wife, your children, your lover, your friend, your family, mother, father – everything. Then they say: after you will leave them or you will even never think about them – then you will be considered as liberated. When you’re nothing, you’re absolutely zero, you will think that you’re liberated. But liberated from what?

I will say: every attachment is not stopping a progress. Even for progressing you maybe need some attachments. Just develop your mind, your intellect – and the power of discrimination will come: you will be able to see what is good and what is not so good for you; and you will be able to recognize pure durak, less durak and intelligent person. This discrimination is extremely important.

very interesting gradation

Guruji: yes, pure durak is the rare phenomena. Purity is the rare phenomena in this world. Leave all heavy words for educated people. We’re simple grass root level people. And why grass is so important example? The strongest of the strong wind can topple biggest of the trees – but I’ve never heard strong wind or a cyclone break a grass. It always survives. When we’re saying: go back to the grassroots level – it maybe the strongest level you can imagine.

You should not follow your useless desires. And you should be intelligent enough to analyze – what is useless desire and what is very important desire. We go back to your power of discrimination.

EGO

Ego — develop and refine it

EGO

If somebody is trying to dominate you unnecessarily – stand up to him, face him; as they say in America – you can play the same game.

what is Your opinion about ego: many people says that we must be humble, the ego must be very low – but sometimes it maybe not the very healthy process to put it down?

Guruji: ego is the only thing you have: so develop it, refine it, and take into sublime levels. And stay away from false ego: go with the core of the real ego which you have – and develop it and refine it.

how we can differentiate the false ego from the true one?

Guruji: I think if you’re not intelligent enough to understand this- then there is no hope( smiling)

Higher Living, Aghora

Viveka and mana — heart as commander, the body as machinery

“Guruji, in the fight between viveka (discrimination) and mana (heart), does mana always win?”

Guruji: “You can say in the conflict of heart and mind, the heart always wins. Viveka is but a part of the mind.”

“Isn’t mana (heart) a servant of the senses?”

Guruji: “No, it’s the commander.”

“Then why do people say that it got entangled in senses?”

Guruji: “Those people now look like idiots to me. You are a computer specialist. Tell me this: There are so many buttons on a computer. Are they all useless? When god made senses, why did he make them? Truth is that people are not able to command the machinery of the body, or master it, that’s why they keep complaining. They are scared about what will happen if the wrong button gets pushed. That’s why should learn control of the entire body, how to use it. These are useless talks about senses and mana, etc. Ultimately it’s the mind which is working. When you wiggle your toes, does it wiggle by itself or is it by a command from your brain?

“Let me tell you an incident: A sadhu came to visit here. As soon as he entered, he saw dīdī [Guruji’s sister – Mataji] and covered his eyes. We later found out that doesn’t look at women. Everywhere he goes, women are first removed from his path, then only he proceeds further. I told him never to come back. Instead of removing women from your sight, why don’t you just gouge your eyes out.

Viveka and mana — heart as commander, the body as machinery (continued)

“In this fervor to not ever look at any woman, he must have developed a negative attachment towards them. He must be careful all the time that he doesn’t accidently look at any woman. He will never be normal again. And it’s not like his father gave birth to him! And let’s say even if he did not see the face of a woman his entire life, what did he really accomplish with that? He wouldn’t even realize what he lost. It’s the height of stupidity. Now he’ll claim ‘I have controlled my senses since I haven’t seen any woman.’ So what? There are many blind people who don’t see them.

KHECHARI MUDRA AND HASTA MUDRAS

Knowledge of the ego is not the way to God

KNOWLEDGE OF THE EGO IS NOT THE WAY TO GOD

very often comes the situation that when the person received Kriya yoga practice – he starts to feel superior towards others because he got this practice and they don’t?

Guruji: but he should be also intelligent enough not to show it!

on one side he is so proud of it

Guruji: why not? You should be proud! Of course!

…but on the other side ego will go high?

Guruji: ego will go to sublime heights, it becomes very refined. False ego – we don’t recommend. Accept the reality( smiling)

the good ego will go to sublime heights?

Guruji: from religious point of view – because they are ought to control you – they will say: don’t do anything, remain non- violent, without ego: so you will be very easy to control. But as you’re yogi – your individuality will become very strong. I’m not a priest and you’re also not searching for god. If you’re searching – then go to priests, pandits, mullas: they are experts to show you the path how to reach god.

so ego is not the obstacle for the development and achievement?

Guruji: it may become a driving force for all your development. If there is no ego – for what you’re trying to achieve anything? You will live just a vegetable type of life.

mostly our ego relates to the person?

Guruji: ego is connected directly with your conditioning; your exposure to your family, society, job place; it develops because of your conditioning. Enhanced it is called “false ego”. Very rarely somebody discover its true form. Maybe only yogis discover.

Your feeling of being that “I am”

without any attachment?

Guruji: without any impression of the conditioning. That dialogue from some philosopher is good: you are? – yes, I am! – how? I think therefore I am.

yes, Rene Descartes.

Guruji: yes. Accept your thought or electrical body maybe one and the same.

Self-inquiry, identity and social responses

Temptations, being myself, the subtle play of the ego

It is very easy to control your temptations when you’re old. The difficult thing is to find them.

This is extremely difficult to agree that I’m myself. Most of them are trying to be someone else. I’m that, He is me; but I’m me. That is good enough for me. Maybe this is the most subtle play of the ego that I’m not the simple man – I’m god.

SMASHAN AND SUSHUMNA

Ego, the source of consciousness, and the causal world

When you forget about the source, from where the consciousness is coming to you – then ego starts to develop and you think – yes, I am immortal, I am eternal always. Because you’re aware of yourself, you’re conscious – but you’re no longer aware of the source of life. And source of life is the basic of subconsciousness and your feeling of being as well.

so the causal world is the world of spirits or the world of akash?

Guruji: causal world means the cause: so cause is soul – we’ve just covered it. So causal world is where the souls live or the spirits live. It’s nearly impossible to give a simile to it, no example can be given. How can we imagine where is no trace of five elements? We cannot give any example for that.

TEA

Knowing yourself solves everything

KNOWING YOURSELF SOLVES EVERYTHING

You have seen so many charts or your disciples and your friends…

Guruji: again I will go back to your brain: what we see in a person is just 2% of his true nature. And most of that is conditioning and his reaction to the society.

More he will develop himself – more he will go near to the true nature. It is just tip of the iceberg, what we see.

which house in the chart You see developed more in Your disciples: 8th or 9th?

Guruji: you see, most of the people – when they see high depressive state by planets – they say he will discard the own land and become a sannyasi. But it is simply a depression, not to vairagya.

but You think – 8th or 9th?

Guruji: 12th also; it must be like that.

could we say that with the great develop in yoga practice the fear or death will go away?

Guruji: because you will know exactly what is death.

Man fears the unknown: when you don’t know what is death – you will continue to fear it. When you will know exactly what is death – you will not fear it. Knowing matters!

The mind as a friend and the desires

in shastras it is so much saying about control of the mind?

Guruji: you know, my point is always different. You should make your mind your friend. And you should be friendly with your breathe.

so this is the control? To be friendly? Not suppress?

Guruji: nobody could suppress enough.

and what about your desires? You should be friend of your desires?

Guruji: actually you need to understand them first. Without understanding what you should do with them?

THERE IS ONLY ONE MAN IN CREATION THAT IS SHIVA

Mind as friend, not controlled; Arjuna's fickle mind and the Gita (continued)

Guruji: I’ve just told you that you should first understand your emotions and your mind. This controlling is the basic human nature and which leads to problems. It’s better to make your mind your friend and he will follow your adventures.

but control is needed?

Guruji: no, only friendship is needed. You see – you’re my friend: if I say to you – please, bring me a cup of chai – you’re not my servant, I’m not controlling you, but I’m sure that you bring me a cup of chai. And the same is with your mind, but this is no control. And if I say that I control you, quickly bring me chai – definitely some rebellion will come. YOU CANNOT CONTROL WHAT YOU NOT UNDERSTAND. You need to understand your emotions, your consciousness, your mind and develop them also to very great height; then you will understand that no control is necessary.

it’s like a 6 th chapter of Gita – when Arjuna is saying that mind is so powerful?

Guruji: he said – the mind is fickle. It’s very difficult to make it steady. But my opinion is different then Arjun. I say mind – the basic nature of mentally state; when you’re trying to supply to your mind something that your mind doesn’t like – he will try to run away from that. But if your mind like something – he will immediately concentrate on that. You need to understand your mind – that’s why I keep saying that. Arjuna’s mind was very fickle – he was preparing all his life to kill all his family so he will gain all the property and the kingdom. Suddenly Krishna was telling him about yoga – his mind was running away from that.

maybe his mind was switched to yoga instead of killing people?

Guruji: he was never able to switch to yoga. He never tried.

but Krishna was telling him to concentrate?

Guruji: actually Krishna was telling us. He just found the cause because it’s going to be recorded – Sanjay was seeing it, Vyasa was aware of it. Let’s give something for the future generations. He was sure that Arjun will not remember anything of it. It was for us. He was going to killing someone and you will stop him and say all this about life and death and yoga – how he is going to react? Maybe he will give another kill for free.

“KUMBHAK” MEANS A POT

Mercury in witchcraft, kleshas and doubt

is it true that mercury is using in witchcraft to create some obstacles?

Guruji: mercury is used in every part of life.

when we’re practicing – do we approach all five kleshas simultaneously?

Guruji: no, we just need to recognize them and concentrate on our practice. One by one all kleshas will disappear.

it exists particular order of their disappearing?

Guruji: no order, simultaneously. When you’re polishing the diamond – how you can sure, from what angle it will shine more? It will happen simultaneously.

I will quote Krishna – he is saying in the Gita here: a person with the doubt in the mind perishes. A man with the doubt in the mind cannot survive. First you clarify or your doubts in your mind; then from the moment you overcome your doubts the real progress will begin in life.

how to face it?

Guruji: with respect: you’re studying yourself. Make your mind powerful, take a strong decision.

Some Flowers And Some Thorns

Deposing like that which one is not and feeling oneself to be like that is called as ‘false ego’. Said in other words false ego is nothing but vanity. When one is disposed in sublime ego, the one in such disposition unites with the entire world and beholds him everywhere.

: Eternal Struggle

: Eternal Struggle

Sometimes I wonder: are we living in the same world or the billions are living in that many different worlds. Everybody lives in his own world.

* * *

I say sometimes that everybody living in this world is not sharing the same world. They keep on living in different worlds, nearly seven billion worlds.

* * *

When I was going through a lot of adventures and misadventures I never thought that I would talk about them. But now I am for two three years continuously talking about them and discussing them. When you are experiencing them it is not such an enjoyable experience but after some time when you are boasting about them then it sounds very interesting.

Now, you tell me what a man wants?

Q: Liberation?

Sh: Not liberation. He wants a good company to be surrounded with and he wants to sound off and he needs an audience which will listen to him. I am a very fortunate person. Now I have them, yes.

* * *

A person who has got enough money and a good family and a good house – but still something he lacks, he is not really happy with all these things. What does he need? My observation is that everybody wants to sound off and they need an audience who will listen very patiently to whatever they are saying.

* * *

Every man loves to boast and to tell stories. And every man wants to have interested audience. Nobody is there to listen to them – and they are not happy. It is a very important thing that you create some audience. I was telling that we are all heroes of our own lives – or heroines. And we want to boast what heroic deeds we have done in our life to prove ourselves to the world, but sadly nobody wants to listen.

* * *

Every movie is a collection of stills – but they are moving so fast in front of us we think that it is one movie. It is our perception. Otherwise it’s a collection of different stills. But as long as we remain a part of this big movie, we will never understand the reality. So you have to go out of that movie only then you will have an objective view and will be able to realize what is what. Till then we are a part of this playing different roles, parts, acting in it.

Who makes the movies? We do. Who acts in the movies? We do. Why are there horror movies? Because some people like it. Why are there comedies? Because so many people like it. It is our decision, our choice. It’s a big responsibility. It is a big burden to carry.

Most of us are like that: a person is starving by the roadside and some moviemaker comes and offers him some money and for money he will act…

Q: Doesn’t matter in what kind of movie?

Sh: No. Every starving person is ready to do anything. So we are also starving and we are ready to do anything.

Q: But when you are becoming a Hollywood star – well, the movie star usually has the power to read the script and choose it.

Sh: Yes, they do. And what about the people who are standing in the crowd? Even though we see them in the crowd, everybody is the main character in his movie and feeling special. I knew once an old man who is no more now; somehow he got a part in the crowd of a very old famous Hindi movie and he enjoyed the glory of playing there, he used to show us that particular frame. Everybody said: “Yes, yes, you are famous”. And he loved it.

* * *

All the human beings have different ideas about themselves. All the time some wrong ego is present.

* * *

There is a poem: “I am a seeker of fame. I have nothing else in my mind. Even if I become infamous that will be a type of fame”. They are seeking fame, yes: from Oswald to Jack the Ripper – all. You kill a famous person – and you are famous.

Q: Why do you think such an abnormal resolve appears in people?

Sh: In fact everybody wants to be recognized.

Q: Do you think it’s coming from loneliness.

Sh: Maybe. Or may be they attach fame with immortality: even if they are gone, they will keep on living in the memories of people. And it gives a person something very high. A high feeling.
