Long Way to Wisdom

Long Way to Wisdom

Gyaneshwar had three brothers and a sister: Nvrittinath, Sopana, Muktabai and Gyaneshvar. There was one yogi living nearby, he was 1200 years old. And some Guru told him that the real Guru would appear when he was 1200 years old. And once he heard about them. He came riding a tiger, taking a cobra as a lash. And all three brothers and a sister were sitting on the wall. And they said to the wall: «He’s coming on a tiger so take us to him” and the wall began to move. The name of that yogi who was 1200 years was Changdev. And then Changdev wanted to be their disciple. And they said that their sister would be his Guru. She was very young, maybe 14-15 years old or so. And just imagine that 1200 old yogi serving a girl of 14-15 years old as Guru. And there was another great incident. One day she was taking a bath. And Changdev came for something. She came out naked from the bathroom. And he just looked on other side. And she said: “1200 years old! And there are still such thoughts in your head!” And that was the moment of his realization, he became a realized person.

The record keeper's narration

I called him the record keeper here. And he was narrating. I mean it is it sounds like biblical. In the beginning the formless power was there. Then it took form in three ways. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. From Brahma the verses came and and then Shakti then Parashar then Vyasa and Bharadwaja then from Bharadwaja the Dronacharya Ashwatthama. He married 17 times. 17 branches. And you know from where he started? Impossible. You cannot guess. From Tibet. That means I'm the master. That's why I'm so much aware of I'm the master. Without ever going there.

ABOUT TATTOO

Tattoo dialogue: identity, laya, ecology, human divinity and samadhi

HUMAN DIVINITY

It is in Nath yogi’s ancient scriptures - even you will find it in “Gorakhnath and Kanphata yogis” by Briggs – there was water only and they didn't know how to start irrigation, so they went to the Netherworld and found Gorakhnath sitting on his eternal dhuni. Vishnu requested him – and Gorakhnath gave him a handful of vibhuti. Vishnu took it and spread on the water – and the Creation started. That is known how this creation is carbon-based, science is saying it. Connect it!

The question is – who took birth as Matsyendranath? Somebody very-very high.

Some creature?

Guruji: Not a creature – some very high spirit; maybe to bring divinity to human beings. Because he was extraordinary – he was immediately thrown away by his family; and he became the first human disciple of Shiva.

You think he knew exactly what time he must have taken birth?

Guruji: I’m sure about it.

Who was the last one realized in this lineage?

Guruji: Maybe Ganganath; someone after Ganganath also… There was one Mastanath. Ganganath was also born like a human. It’s a pattern – if you just take a look at it: previously human beings were nothing, like cattle from some shepherd to take care of them; and we were worshipping heavenly gods, who were immortal. We were worshipping them, serving them and doing whatever they desired; with Matsyendranath the divinity first descended to the human body - then the pattern started: Rama was born as a human from a human mother, Shri Krishna – human mother and father, and then there are so many saints – jesus Christ, even prophet Mohammad – they were all human beings. Then the divinity began to be into all humanity; nobody is worshipping immortal gods, who are in heaven.

We need to observe this pattern; come down to Babaji, Sai Baba – they are all human beings but they all have a touch of divinity; Anandamayi Ma also. Before that – nothing. I think it’s a very great thing: that for the first time human beings are considered as important creations. Lots of divinity is coming down. Just go back to the Olympian times, when Zeus was ruling; who was practicing yoga? – nobody. Never self-realization or self-development were discussed. The main aim was just to have an entry to heaven.

What do You think – for people that it was possible to attain the god-like state? Not just enter heaven, but to become like god?

Guruji: That's how yoga started from Matsyendranath. There is no other way. Whom you will worship, who can grant you that unless you develop yourself? It’s a major evolution or major introduction – thanks to Shiva Ji.

Kali Worship, Vimalananda, Ethereal Beings

Trailanga's courtroom story, Lahiri recognition and later fame

Guruji: "Never heard of that, though I've read about him eating his own excrements. That was a famous incident: Once he got arrested due to ‘indecent exposure’. Some English memsahibs came for a stroll where he was sitting naked on the grass. Looking at him, they were shocked! 'How horrible! Such a grotesque man is lying around naked! Arrest him.’ they cried. On their complaint, the collector put him behind bars. Now as he was walking in his prison cell, he casually 'walked-out' of his prison cell without getting 'barred' by the prison bars. It caused such a pandemonium! Sometimes he was seen strolling on the roof, sometimes outside the prison. They were not able to contain him.

"On the day of his hearing in front of the collector for 'indecent exposure', when the collector asked him about it, he simply said: 'We are children of God. Children go about naked, so I’m naked. What’s the problem? Indecent or decent lies in the eye of the beholder.'

The collector asked him: 'Do you consider everybody as equal?’.

He said: 'Yes, everybody is equal'.

‘In that case, will you be able to eat what we eat?' They ate beef, etc, so the collector thought that that would get the naked madman back on line.

He said: 'Sure, if you can can eat what I eat, than I’ll eat what you eat’ . The collector thought he’s just a vegetarian Hindu, what’s the worse that could happen. So he said: ‘Yes, I’m ready’. Hearing this, Trailanga Swami shat, then and there in the courtroom, and ate it! (laughs). He was immediately released. Because even when they had imprisoned him, he was casually walking out of his cell. Nobody was able to restrain them.

"His siddhis were so powerful! Actually people's devotion only start only with display of power; nobody cares for saintliness. Take the miracles out of Lahiri Mahasaya’s life, who would have gone to him then? Only when Trailanga Swami took him into his arms and said that 'this man has accomplished everything without giving up anything, which I have sought by renouncing everything including my loin cloth!' Only after his recognition Lahiri Mahasaya became famous in Banaras.

"But Trailanga Swami was a great man, there’s no doubt about that. He was one of the greatest aghoris of all time."

"It's interesting that there were so many great people living around the same time."

Guruji: "That’s true. There are a lot of famous people from around that time - Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Lahiri Mahasaya, Trailanga Swami, Bhaskarananda, Balananda, Totapuri, etc. But the thing is, how many contemporary people knew them? Only after people who came later read their stories that they became famous."

Kali Worship, Vimalananda, Ethereal Beings

Trailanga/Babaji identity inference and its qualifications

Guruji: "Had an unbelievable revelation! I'm surprised that we missed this obvious fact till now:

"We've read Lahiri Mahasaya's diaries. In his life, Trailanga Swami's name appears quite prominently. Trailanga Swami made him famous in Kashi with his statement, 'He has attained this high state while remaining a householder, for which I had to discard even my loincloth!' Even the king of Kashi came to Lahiri Mahasaya on the suggestion of Trailanga Swami, otherwise why would anybody go to an average Bengali's house, leave alone the king!

"Trailanga Swami's origin was mysterious, but his end was even more mysterious. He went in Samadhi, and told people to put him in a wooden box and throw it in Ganges. Nobody saw the box drown, it floated away in the river. Another interesting fact is that Trailanga Swami only took alms from the household of Lahiri Mahasaya's father-in-law, and not from anyone else his entire life. All this means is that he was Babaji himself, in a different form, and kept Lahiri Mahasaya in front of him his entire life and guided him every step of the way!"

"Lahiri Mahasaya used to go to Batuk Bhairava's temple every Sunday, all alone, which was very close to Trailanga Swami's place. Also, Trailanga Swami's only disciple, Shankari Mayi Jiu, used to come to meet Lahiri Mahasaya. There must be a reason why Trailanga Swami only took alms from only one man's house. Since Kashimani Devi was a single child, it is possible that Trailanga Swami taught the only son-in-law of the house. It's quite a possibility.

"Also, the whole episode of meeting Babaji and the appearance of a golden palace is nowherementioned in Lahiri Mahasaya's diaries! It is also a fact that Trailanga Swami lived for 280 years in Kashi, and nobody really saw him die. That means he was immortal.

"It's a remarkable analysis, which also opens many possibilities."

Mahakala, Vibhishan, and the Seven Immortals

Mahakala collection: role models, changing worship, spirit identity, dreams and nature

Guru Gorakhnath, Shrinath-ji, and Datta Guru

"Guruji, I've read that old yogis always lived or roamed around in solitude."

Guruji: "They used to, and to accumulate energy also followed celibacy for a particular duration. But nobody knows what happened to them afterwards. For instance, Matsyendranath was trapped in the Triya kingdom because of Hanuman-ji's instructions, and then Gorakhnath freed him. But happened afterwards? There's no story of them after that; there's total silence. Then suddenly Shankar-ji's stories start, that he's doing penance in the Himalayas and is a very accomplished yogi, then Daksha Prajapati gave him his daughter, then Himalaya later. Why did all these start at Lord Rama's time, and not before that? Could it be that it was a continuation of guru Gorakhnath's story? Shankar-ji also has Nath get-up, and in 'Skanda Purana' and 'Shiva Purana', Shankar-ji is saying he is Gorakhnath himself."

"But Guruji, Shiva-ji is also Adinath, the first Nath?"

Guruji: "Yes, is it also said that Adinath first came in the form of Gorakhnath. It's very complicated. and And only he is always doing meditation."

Mahakala, Vibhishan, and the Seven Immortals

Nath connections, mysteries and autobiographical discoveries

"Who is he meditating upon?"

Guruji: "Well, the simple answer is that since his devotees are meditating upon him, he is meditating upon his devotees. But the actual thing could be entirely different. To understand it the mind has to reach that level. An immortal being, who is all-powerful, and the entire creation and all the spirits are his parts in a way, how to understand what is he meditating upon?? In a religious sense people say he is meditating upon Krishna or someone else but I don't believe that. When we meet with him we'll ask him, no other way to find out (laughs)."

"I found that Agrawals history also has references to Guru Gorakhnath."

Guruji: "The impact of Gorakhnath on Agrawals is clear. They hail from Agroha/Rajasthan where everybody believes in Gorakhnath. 22 states in Rajasthan recognize Guru Gorakhnath and other Naths as their official gurus. Who is Punjab doesn't bow to them? The honorific "guru" is associated with only these two - Dattatreya (Datta Guru) and Gorakhnath (Guru Gorakhnath). And 'Guru Purnima' is his birthday. He was born on that day, and later Vyas-ji was born on that day as well. Mysteries are increasing. "

"Am not sure if the solutions will come."

Guruji: "We are only equipping ourselves better over time. In the beginning I had no idea but these things have revealed themselves over time. At least I'm sharing all this with you guys. When I was your age, I didn't have any idea about these things. Only after finding their natural marks (Shivalinga and Devi's breasts and vagina) that my attention was drawn towards Shiva and Shakti. Finding these symbols also means that they have a direct blessing on me.

"Earlier I only bothered about yoga - used to sit in practice day and night, till 3am. Got tremendous results from that. Powers, or should rather say, abilities also developed. Wrote the commentaries in Gita, Yoga Darshan, etc, and only after all that and after starting to live in Smashan (cremation grounds) these signs came. That means Nature has tuned with me. Another remarkable thing is we never found any other gods' marks, except Shiva and Shakti."

[About Shrinath-ji, who is the presiding deity at Nathdwara. There's confusion about who he really is, since Shrinath is also a name of Lord Krishna, Guru Gorakhnath, as well as Shri Matsyendranath]

Guruji: "People say that Lord Krishna is Shrinath-ji, since he's the swami of Shri-ji, -Radha-ji. But that's not really true. Somehow there's a mystery behind how these cults started. Badrinath temple deity looks exactly like Babaji sitting in padmasana. It seems like they went into backdrop over time and something else came forward. The city itself became Nathdwara - 'Home of Naths' - when he went there. There are some obvious facts that are getting ignored due to sectarian fanaticism."

"Guruji, what's the relationship between Datta Guru and Guru Gorakhnath?"

Guruji: "It is said that Datta Guru started the Nath cult. He is the giver of magical powers and immortality as well. There's a Siddha cult who can do miracles with the help of Mercury and Sulphur. That too was started by Dattatreya Maharaj. He always guides from the backdrop. He is the one who gave Kapalika get-up to Lord Shiva, and also established the Aghora path. Aghora means 'pure beauty', not 'terrible' as is generally understood. It is completely opposite of that. If one is immortal, there will be no fear for him. and For fearless, there's only beauty and nothing's horrible. A strange point of view will develop."

AVADHUT: SIDDHA: RAVANA: JANAKA: BHARTHARI: BRAHMA: KRIYA YOGA: GYANA SANKALINI TANTRA

Avadhut, symbolic Brahma/Time readings, mythic relations and spirit friendship

AVADHUT : SIDDHA : RAVANA : JANAKA : BHARTHARI : BRAHMA : KRIYA YOGA : GYANA SANKALINI TANTRA

and what about Avadhut?

Guruji: in Siddha Siddhanta Paddhati you will read that avadhuta is the highest stage of yoga.

it is higher than paramahamsa?

Guruji: definitely.

it requires another discipline, another way of life and practice?

Guruji: after follow a lot of discipline you will simple evolve to this level.

so avadhut is not a simple sadhu, living naked?

Guruji: so far only Shiva and Dattatreya are avadhutas. Or maybe 23 tirthankars of Jainism – they also supposed to be avadhutas.

Revarnath will be the 24 th ?

Guruji: he will be 25 th . 24 th is actually not Nath; 23 nathas name is attached with them and 24 th was Mahavira, swami – he was not Nath and he created some organization. Before that not avadhut even had a single disciple. He created organization, but he was very high spiritually – but he was only swami, not Nath. So 25 th will be Nath, Revarnath.

they connected somehow with 84 siddhas?

Guruji: they are siddhas, nobody call them avadhut. But Dattatreya may be also one of them. That means – siddha can be avadhut and avadhut have siddhi also.

can we say that avadhut realized sayujya state?

Guruji: for every, we can say that. In modern language you can say that the state of avadhut is the climax of evolution as human can achieve, as a human being it’s top most achieve. And it is not a religious thing, it is absolutely spiritual evolution. We have to make it clear nowadays. In Siddha Siddhanta Paddhati Gorakhnath describes it in more detail. That is the final state. He can roam freely around the world, nothing can harm him, he will not be bothered by hunger or thirst or by anything – it is considered as free state. Even this definition about paramahamsa – maybe it is recorded first time. Grass root level of India carries great wisdom. Even in villages, if somebody is dyeing or dead – they say the hamsa flew away. Hamsa gone. So paramahamsa is only for paramatma.

Many people are coming with question, why the great yogis had a short life – they are trying to say, that they may live for thousands of years etc. but what I say: no matter if you live for 25 years or you live for 25000 years – it is only one lifetime, no matter how long or short it is. And the beauty is – what are you able to express in that one lifetime. Some yogis – they are so great that they use their mind to utmost capacity and express things in 20 years what a man, living 25000 years simply can not express. We will have to consider that very seriously and very deeply, that a lifetime is a lifetime. Long or short, absolutely different – and how you can express in that – that is important.

Babaji’s group and the ideal of immortality

Immortal-group criteria, distinct lineage branches and Shiva/Time symbol limits

what you can say about two paramparas: one from Shiva to Matsyendranath and Gorakhnath and another – from Parashurama to Dronacharya?

Guruji: no, another is from Shiva to Jalandharnath to Kanifanath – there are two branches.

these two are yoga paramparas. And from Parashuram to Kripacharya?

Guruji: they call it Shri Vidya – art of immortality. It is more higher level.

and Lord Parashurama is the founder of this branch?

Guruji: no, the founder is Dattatreya. Actually nobody is the founder; when Parashurama was sent to Dattatreya for knowledge and received upadesh - then it started. You know the story how Parashuram went to see Dattatreya?

When Parashurama killed Kshatriyas 21 times and fill 5 lakes full of blood to do tarpan to the ancestors - after that he somehow couldn’t find peace. Even he killed all Kshatriyas and fulfill his promise – he couldn’t find peace for himself. He went to Benares – Kashi – and he went to brother of Brihaspati – Samvarta rishi. In legend is – he’s still live in Kashi till today. And Samvarta rishi said – that it is only one being, who can give you peace: go to Dattatreya. He told, how to find him and also – that his test could be very disturble. But you must learn for him and don’t have fear at all – you must go through the test. Parashuram went to a place where he was live and find a very beautiful black dog guarding the door. And he had to take permission from dog to come in. That was the first test – the dog gave him and when he entered the cave – he saw Dattatreya lying naked drinking wine and one apsara – very beautiful naked woman was sitting with him. She was giving him wine in a glass made from ruby. Parashuram did pranam to him – he called Dattatreya Guru of the Gurus – and say that he come to seek his blessings and upadesh. And Dattatreya told him: what I can tell you? I myself is slave of my tongue and my - you know – so what I can teach you? Go! And Parashuram said: please, I’ve already come through your test – so please, give me peace. Then Dattatreya told him so many things, he made him disciple and I think their dialogue in Tripura Rahasya and many other books – there are many recordings. Parashuram went away for 12 years, he was thinking on that and again some questions come to his mind – then again he go to Dattatreya. So immortal being learning from another immortal being.

how Samvarta rishi know about Dattatreya?

Guruji: he’s brother of Brihaspati and he’s also immortal – the secret things are known only to secret people.

and Samvrta rishi teach someone in Kashi?

Guruji: no, he just be there to be near Shiva. It is said that you need eternity to understand the nature of Shiva just a little bit – so they like to live around Shiva’s places. They could continue whatever they do; because Shiva is Guru of all Gurus – Time is Guru of everything.

Babaji’s group and the ideal of immortality

Unknown Dattatreya nature and seed/play analogies

if Shiva is Time, what is the representation of Dattatreya? He is beyond Time?

Guruji: nobody can tell you. He is the most mysterious being in indian mythology and legends and he’s still there. He is immortal and he is embodiment of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva together. It is said he’s chirkumar – always looks like teenager. And he can appearss like an old man also. It’s his decision – to whom give something and to whom don’t give anything.

and who else are disciples of Dattatreya except Gorakhnath?

Guruji: actually the whole nath lineage considered Dattatreya as they Guru.

considered – ok, but to whom he give his teachings?

Guruji: he’s not a yoga instructor to give the regular classes. I mean when a person is there for centuries and thousands of years, then he decided - now his mind is develop to this level and come, gives one hint as a seed, moves away and this seed grows up to big tree in coming century – his teachings is very different.

is it possible to read somewhere about it?

Guruji: there is no one book on it – all things are given separate. There was one scholar from maybe Britain who tried to combine all stories about Dattatreya – this book might be available.

I remember one very interesting story you told us about competition between Dattatreya and Gorakhnath

Guruji: they were just playing; you see – this is the play of the immortal beings. They just met one day and say – let’s take the entertainment, let’s play hide and seek. There was a big lake. Gorakhnath said – ok, I’m going to hide, you seek. And he became the minutest of the minor frog and entered into the lake. Dattatreya found him in one instant. Then it was Dattatreya’s turn to hide – Gorakhnath continue to seek him for thousands of years but couldn’t find him and say: o, Guru, please, appear now. He appeared. He was hiding in the water, turning water himself. So no one could find him. It is the play of great minds and great immortals.

Guruji, what do you think: Matsyendranath and Gorakhnath had some missions to go to China and Nepal?

Guruji: for them Earth is Earth. They can be anywhere – they are free. And they don’t even need a passport to travel. Sometimes I feel – there are great mysteries in China also. It is recorded that rishi Vashishtha went to China and learn about Shakti worshipping from there. It is clearly written in Rudra Yamala tantra. There are mystery there.

Babaji’s group and the ideal of immortality

Parent-teacher inference, name glosses and mantra distinctions

there must be Guru parampara from one Guru to another one. But we have Shiva and Dattatreya – both Gurus of Yoga?

Guruji: Yoga and Aghora both and Tantra as well.

Q : so from Shiva to Dattatreya and then to Matsyendranath?

Guruji: Dattatreya is combine incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. And his father was rishi Atri and mother – Anasuya. I think his father must be his Guru and mother also. They are all immortal beings – he was born from immortal parents. With the combine power of all three gods. Nobody knows of him much.

how we can make the parallel between Shiva as Kalabhairav and Shiva as Rudra?

Guruji: Rudra is also one of his names. Who is able to liquidate the most powerful misery problems – that’s why it is called Rudra. This is the definition of the name “Rudra”. Rudra is defined, definition of the certain. And Shiva again is Shiv, because Shiva is always towards Shakti, whose name is Shiva. Male principle is Shiv and the female principle is Shiva.

why OM is the seed mantra of Shiva?

Guruji: because the word um is his name. When you put this point above(ॐ) – it becomes OM. Otherwise it is um, which is name of Shiva.

why exactly um?

Guruji: because most of these things comes out of his damaru – nobody knows exactly. We can explain something which men invents and discover, but when the source - not much logic applies there.

and how creates bija mantras of chakras?

Guruji: you see – this is alphabet. Put that point on any alphabetical letter and it becomes seed mantra.

so it is not one seed mantra for one chakra – in muladhara it could be four?

Guruji: yes, there are four. Four mantras in the four petals and one mantra for the earth element – lam – it belongs to earth element.

so all that – lam, vam, ram…

Guruji: it belongs to different elements. Earth, water, fire, air and akash. Om in agnya which is beyond all elements. That mantras is in the center, and letters are on petals.

for what discipline these mantras are used?

Guruji: it is recognition only. Recognition of that certain element because lam is the vibration of that particular element, so petals has this vibration.

exists some discipline to activate them?

Guruji: only Yoga can activate, not by chanting; if you continue to say “lam-lam-lam” maybe you can become mad.

is it true that moles is considered as Shiva’s animals?

Guruji: name Shiva means jackal in Sanskrit. Nothing about moles. And female jackal is called Shiva.

STAGES OF EDUCATION OF ANCIENT YOGIS

I've read about Lakulishas, that they had the four stages of education: on the first stage they lived near Shiva temples and learn mantras from Yajurveda; then they lived like a beggars – and if someone abused them they took their bad karmas and if someone praise them they took their good karmas; then they went to the forest and eat only that they could find; and on the final stage they came to smashan and lived near Shiva Ji?

Guruji: this is true. And it used to be 12 years cycles.

very strange discipline?

Guruji: to be near Shiva and get His grace. That is one-point program.

for what they start first to learn mantras from Yajurveda?

Guruji: first they are selected: I mean many people try out of curiosity, but they were carefully selected. Because whoever will teach them – examine them thoroughly. And once you have committed – you cannot go away. It's one way path.

how it happens that who insult can took their bad karmas?

Guruji: it is not only them, it is considered as yogis; if somebody criticises them – he takes away their bad karmas, if somebody praises them – he takes away the good karmas: so they remain without karma. It is for any yogi.

but when they lived in jungle, they practiced something?

Parampara, sampradaya

Parampara, sampradaya

”Alakh” means which remains unseen or which can not be seen. “Niranjan” means which is beyond carbon. That remains unseen.

it’s the nature of self?

Guruji: it is the nature of spirit also and it is the nature of whatever yogi try to know. Because the whole creation is carbon-based; anjan is carbon, niranjan – is beyond carbon, and that will remain unseen. You can only experience it – that’s it. Until unless you will reach to the level when you’re able to communicate in para – then. There are four types of communication: we’re using the lowest type of communication. Para(k) is mind to mind. Then something can communicate. Here is very interesting to observe that the word parampara can not be translated as tradition. Parampara means “ supreme beyond”. Origin is there. So if you just follow the parampara to the best of your ability and with enough respect and honesty –you will reach supreme beyond. You will directly connect with it. Tradition is not right translation.

it exist some difference between sampradaya and parampara?

Guruji: sampradaya literally means – giving equally. Not an organization. These are very deep words.

but in yogi’s lineage is parampara?

Guruji: parampara – supreme beyond. It started from Shiva and if you will follow it – you can reach there.

in which cases are used sampradaya?

Guruji: most of the organizations are called sampradaya where you receive same teaching. Parampara and sampradaya are two sides of a coin.

GURU AND DISCIPLE

Kula and kuleen — Kamarupa, Govardhan and khechari

KULA AND KULEEN

Kamarupa: some people say – it is in Kamakhya, some people say it is in Kanchi, in South India; that if you will do tapas there for 1 year, observing every rule – then you may have grace from the Siddhanath. Kamarupa is connected with Kamakhya; but then Matsyendranath himself have said that Govardhan is Kamakhya – so it’s a big complicated now. I was here continuously doing things for 7 years – then he call me. Today it fits exactly. As a senior – it’s not expected him to come and visit, senior will call you to talk.

what do You think – he himself did tapas here?

Guruji : I think so: maybe he’s still here. That is amazing.

he is the founder of trika and kaula system?

Guruji: yes, and first human Guru of hatha yoga as well. He is the greatest human Guru.

what is the difference between these systems and hatha yoga?

Guruji: maybe they are the step up programs after you become an accomplished yogi; when you enter the realm of the spirits – only then, not for the beginners.

they starts from kula?

Guruji: kula – kuleen: who can do khechari is called kuleen. That is a very important ingredient.

Trailanga Swami — the excrements, the prison and the courtroom

[about Trailanga Swami]

"Read somewhere that Trailanga Swami worshiped Shiva-linga with his own excrements."

Only after people who came later read their stories that they became famous."

every ancient clan has the own Kula Guru?

Guruji: yes, Kula Devata and Kula Guru – both. We’re lucky to have him as our Guru. I was attracted to battle axes from very early childhood.

Dnyaneshwar dev, Changdev, and Muktabai's lesson

Guruji: I’ll tell you another great story about Dnyaneshwar dev; there was the man who become a sannyasi but he was already married. So when the great sadhu was coming – his wife bended him pranam and he said to her: become a mother. She said – how can I become a mother, my husband is already sadhu? Then he realized that it is her husband - his disciple and he told him to back to family way of life. Once you become a sadhu and then came back to the family back of life – the society will simply dishonest you. Otherwise it will become a child’s play: one day you’re a sadhu next day you’re something else. So society was shunning them and 4 children were born. Nivrutti nath, Dnyaneshwar dev, Sopan and one girl – Muktabai.

Then by their destiny they become disciples of Gahaninath, who was disciple of Gorakhnath. It was in Nasik. They become Nath yogis. Nivruttinath initiated his two brothers and one sister. There was one great sadhu, whose name was Changdev, he was 1200 years old. He was waiting for a genuine true Guru. Whenever his death’s time will come – he will go into samadhi and then again revive himself after the time is gone. He lived for 1200 years. When he heard about their reputation – their chanting mantras, ride on buffalo – you can read their story, it’s fantastic. Dnyaneshwar also wrote commentaries on Gita, which are very famous in Maharashtra about 700 years before – Gyaneshwari, amazing book. So Changdev came to test them. He was riding a tiger and was carrying a cobra like a whip. These four people were sitting on a wall. They saw him rides and say: wall, please, take us to him. the wall moved and took them to Changdev who was riding a tiger – and he surrendered himself. It’s fantastic story: the youngest sister, Muktabai: they said – she is your Guru. You just serve her and maybe you will become the realized person one day. He begin to serve her.

KĀL BHAIRAVA AND THE FIFTH HEAD OF BRAHMĀ

Gorakhnath and Patanjali — death, siddhis, seniority and method

GORAKHNATH AND PATANJALI

in the Nath tradition, the body is perceived as an alchemical laboratory; and even pain is like an instrument for transformation; sadhana is perceived as a battle and the yogin as a warrior, but not as a saint?

Guruji: that I will agree with. I have never seen a happy-looking saint so far — all are weeping and crying for the Lord’s mercy.

When will you be able to stop the mind? When you have developed it 100%. And the body, the support system, will be immortal to support it. They complement each other.

I never thought before that the teachings of Patanjali and Gorakhnath could be so different…

Guruji: I will tell you the difference between Patanjali and Gorakhnath. Patanjali was a disciple of Nandi, Shilad putra Nandi — who was the chief gana of Shiva. Patanjali and 8 other disciples. This record you can find in “Gorakhnath and the Kanphata Yogis” by Briggs and in some ancient Nath traditions.

Gorakhnath was himself an avatar of Shiva. Why did he have to take this avatar? We need to think: because Shiva started to live on Earth, and he was watching humanity for some time; so he made the first human his disciple — Matsyendranath — to study and know about their emotions, ambitions and everything: every tragedy and every happiness.

Then he told him: I will come as your disciple. Matsyendranath had to do tapas for 100,000 years continuously, preparing himself to be the Guru of Shiva’s incarnation. Then Gorakhnath came. And the rest is history.

So: Gorakhnath was Shiva himself — and Patanjali was the disciple of the gana of Shiva, the chief gana. The difference will always remain. We follow Gorakhnath more. Even though I’ve done a full commentary on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, we respect him very much; but Gorakhnath stands apart. No comparison with Gorakhnath! We need to remember that.

KĀL BHAIRAVA AND THE FIFTH HEAD OF BRAHMĀ

Gorakhnath and Patanjali — death, siddhis, seniority and method (continued)

Patanjali was not giving you any technical details — just the situation. It’s part of the philosophy — and he is giving conclusions also. But Gorakhnath has gone into detail.

it is interesting to compare their attitude towards Time and death: Patanjali said that to be liberated means to go out of the cycle of incarnations; and the main aim is to stop taking birth again. Gorakhnath is saying: the aim is to conquer death. The Nath does not want to quit the world: he wants to be immortal inside the world.

Guruji: the result is the same — but this is more difficult. He never took another birth; why? He never died! That’s the beauty of yoga.

the difference in attitude towards siddhis: Patanjali is saying they are like obstacles and should be avoided; but Gorakhnath is saying that siddhis are like the aim and the means at the same time?

Guruji: you should remember that you should ignore siddhis after obtaining them. You cannot ignore what you don’t have. Otherwise, why does he describe them in detail in the third chapter of the Yoga Sutras? After you attain them — then you are in a situation to ignore them.

Gorakhnath is saying that siddhis are like proof that you have been transformed?

Guruji: yes, I agree. They are the real proof.

who is more senior: who was before — Patanjali or Gorakhnath?

Guruji: I think Gorakhnath is more ancient. Because he is an incarnation of Shiva: that means an expression of Shiva. It stands to reason — he is more ancient.

some people are saying that Nandi is also an avatar of Shiva?

Guruji: no, he did great tapas; his father was Shilad Rishi. Finally, Shiva appeared — and he was asking Nandi to look like himself; and Nandi said: please, my ego will go high: make me monkey-faced. And Shiva made him the chief gana — and he is the wisest of the wisest of the wise.

But that is another mystery: I’ve seen many movies, even TV series — nobody is showing him. They always make Nandi the bull — but they are different persons. You should read the Shiva Purana: he is the most mysterious being. He took incarnation as Hanuman Ji — as you can read in the beginning of the Skanda Purana — in the first or second chapter.

why did Patanjali give all this information without a method?

Guruji: these are conclusions for experts — not for beginners.

why did he start with the most difficult things, like Yama and Niyama?

Guruji: that was the fashion of the day: first they would describe Samadhi Pada. First they described samadhi — then the method. The Gita also starts with how the sthitapragya walks, what he says. Then the explanation begins; that was the fashion of the day.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT WAS SHAILENDRA SHARMA TALKING

Matsyendranath and the descent of divinity

What I see: the greatest of the great yogi – Matsyendranath – was the first human disciple of Shiva Ji. Till then the all humanity was worshipping only heavenly gods, immortals and divine beings. But with first human being, Matsyendranath becoming Shiva’s disciple – the yogic art came to human beings. After that the divinity begin to descend on human beings: if you look the pattern- Rama was the first human incarnation of Parabrahman Parameshwar. He did so many things and fought with the aliens who were here: like rakshasas – I think they were alien; and the big monkeys were also aliens, they supported him. after that another human incarnation avatar took place as Shri Krishna; before that it was no human incarnation or no human being was allowed to learn anything from Shiva. Thanks to Matsyendranath, this divinity begin to descend on human beings. After Shri Krishna now we see a pattern: Jesus Christ, Moses, Gautama Buddha – to Babaji, Sai baba and so many human beings attained divinity. I think this grace started from Matsyendranath, the greatest of the Guru. Jay Guru Machchendranath!!!

Yogi and rishi consciousness compared; Vishwamitra's long life

can we compare the state of consciousness of yogi and of rishi?

Guruji: they are also very high beings because of they are in direct connection, in contact with the very high astral beings. For yogi astral beings also come down themselves to talk with them, because he is in direct connection with his own astral being, spirit inside.

whose spirit is more powerful: yogis or that god, who appeared to rishi?

Guruji: if a yogi is able to develop his mind to 100% - his mind will become very powerful . What is power? It is a state of development.

yogis, rishis, Shri Vidya – all that are different disciplines?

Guruji: then again: you’ll never ever hear the name of Guru of any rishi, but they all about Shiva Shankara for learning; he is considered as a Guru for them also. They must be also going for some form of yoga- that’s why they are living so long. There is a story of Vishwamitra, who was trying to become a brahmin from kshatriya. To become brahmarishi he went through very hard tapas and attained a very long life. Only then he started tapas to become brahmarishi. First – he attained the very long life. Because to be a rishi or to achieve some very high spiritual thing you need to have more time than an average person. That is the key point in Vishwamitra’s life: first he achieved the very long life, longevity – then he started his effort to become a brahmin. This is a tragedy of all human beings: we have the very limited time and not everybody are able to overcome it. But there are exceptions.

he achieved long life by yoga practice?

Guruji: this – nobody knows.

MERCURY ALCHEMY MAGIC IMMORTALITY (PART1)

Discipline, independent attainment, Nath story and faith dialogue

GREAT STORY GURU - MATSYENDRANATH

The story of the greatest Guru – Matsyendranath, which I’ve read at many some of the Nath’s yoga books. He was born in Kashmir in Brahmin family, but his planetary situation was so dangerous to the family that family decided to abandon him. they said he was throwing to the Sheshnag lake, which is on the way to Amarnath. And there was the very big fish who swallowed him. and it so happened that Shiva and Shakti came and they were just sitting on the side of the lake – and they begin to talk of how to attain immortality. And Matsyendranath heard it from inside the fish. When Shiva came to know that he have heard this great upadesh – he had no other option than make him his disciple. That’s how it happen. And then he told him, that I will incarnate myself, because many people said I’m the third Guru and you’ll be my Guru then. Then Matsyendranath were doing tapas for 100000 years, waiting for Shiva to incarnate, and then Shiva came as Gorakhnath and became disciple of Matsyendranath.

Q : what was his planetary situation?

Guruji : Mula nakshatra, avudh Mula – Tulsi das was also born in this. It is supposed to be very dangerous nakshatra for the family, for mother and father. Maybe it was to happen this way: if Matsyendranath would live with the family – maybe we will never have Guru like Matsyendranath, or maybe this situation will never be – that he hear upadesh directly from Adinath – it was maybe destiny.

only nakshatra creates such situation?

Guruji : especially nakshatra. Some descendants of that particular Brahmin clan are still there.

they have special surnames so you can recognize them?

Guruji : nowadays they hide themselves; but if you dig a little bit deeper – you will discover it. I’ve discovered some of them.

Q : what you discovered – they are practicing yoga or interest in yoga?

Guruji : some of them are my disciples also. Their population is not much. Brahmins in whole hindu population are hardly 2%.

Everybody deserves some happiness, some prosperity, peace, love – everything.

The poorest man – who has no friends. Money is incidentally – maybe there, may not be there, but if you have no friends – you’re the most poor person. And only the very friendly person can have good friends. If you’re not friendly – always showing your attitude, arrogance – nobody will like you.

What is honor? I’m a nar; nar in hindi means a man – so honor is naturally coming to me. Honor for nar is absolute natural.

Stay away from sadhus!

Matsyendra Nath, Babaji, and samapradaya as equal giving

"Guruji, whose personality do you find most fascinating in our tradition?"

Guruji: "Matsyendra Nath. In my opinion, he is the greatest Guru of all time.

"There’s a complete chapter on Matsyendra Nath in Narada Purana, second chapter. He is called Siddha Nath in Narada Purana; that’s also one of his names. Shiva-ji is saying “Siddha Nath is my son”, which is then followed by his full description."

"Guruji, how is Matsyendra Nath-ji related to our tradition, kriya yoga?"

Guruji: "He was the first yogi guru after Shiva, in human form. Remember that verse from Hatha Yoga Pradipika: 'Matsyendra and Goraksha knew this art. With their blessing, Swatmaram knows it now'.

"Whatever you are practicing was first taught by Matsyendra Nath, remember!"

"In the current lineage, who have you found fascinating?"

Guruji: "In the current tradition no one has fascinated me so far, except Babaji. I’m not impressed with anybody’s personality. Babaji's personality I'm a big fan of. Since we are in his lineage, in a way we are his disciples.

"All these traditions are somehow related to the Nath tradition. After all, they were the original yogis! The problems have arisen out of recent attempts to create groups or organizations around yoga teachings. That is not acceptable. It has compromised the gravity and beauty of this art."

"Guruji, in the olden times, was it not like a sect? It was still called Nath samapradaya?”

['samapradaya' commonly means a group]

Guruji: "See, samapradaya means 'to give equally' -sama means 'equal', pradaya means 'to give'. Basically to teach what we have learned ourselves. Now if you are teaching equally, you’d have to follow the strict discipline, along with all the pledges. These days it has nothing to do with teaching equally. Now it means a cult or a group.

"Now yoga traditions were the only true samapradaya, because if you don’t teach what you’ve practiced, how would anybody learn? It was never about creating followers, or have disciples lie at the feet of the guru, getting kicked around, in the hope that one day guru maharaja would wake up and with one blessing turn their life around.

"And the guru would know that if he told the disciple whatever little he knew himself - some mantra or something else - then the disciple wouldn’t give a damn about him anymore. So they’d continue to keep it a secret. This is exactly what has happened in most tantric traditions.

"There have been so many cults around Bhakti (devotion). Why do you think that the only display of power was done by people who started these cults, and not by their subsequent followers? That is because they used to practice something else and taught their followers something else.

"Only in yoga one teaches what one practices, and that is true samapradayikta, whatever be its definition today. Otherwise, the standards could not be maintained. This approach is nowhere else. Even Yogananda didn’t teach what he himself learned.

"The teachings should never be trifled with! Nobody is born such a genius that they could better the results arrived at by the old masters. After so many austerities and hard work they extracted the essence of these techniques and passed down that essence to their future generations. Why be a wise-ass and corrupt that knowledge? Only if you follow the instructions exactly as given you'll get the results, not otherwise.

"That’s why there aren’t so many yoga traditions, only a couple. There are many meditation groups, but they are not becoming yogis. Only when you follow the yogic way of life with all its discipline, and then someone tells you the mysteries of these teachings, the awareness will develop.

"At least now you'll never practice [the commonly misunderstood form of] Mahavedha from Hatha Yoga Pradipika (laughs). Still, I’m very proud that my disciples are making good progress."

"Guruji, do you think we'll get to see these original founders of Yoga"?

Guruji: "Of course! If I’ve had their blessings, my disciples shall too.

But the blessing came only because of perseverance in the practice, otherwise why would it have come? Never accept the ordinary. Always try to do better than your capacity. That’s what matters."

TEA

Gorakh Bani criteria

Gorakhnath in his “GORAKH BANI” , collections of Gorakhnath’s sayings,

he states: if somebody claims he is a Yogi - he should not look old,

if somebody says he is Ayurvedic doctor, vaidya - he should never be sick,

if somebody claims he is an alchemist - he should never ask for money from anyone,

if somebody says he is very brave person -

there should be no wound on his back,

and if a woman is saying that she is very good wife

- then she should give piece of mind to the husband!

That’s what Gorakhnath says, and we agree hundred precent with Him.

He is the great Guru!
