Kundalini: what it is and where it sleeps

What is Kundalini Power ? By the way, if it is understood, then it is easy to explain. But I do not claim that among such great scholars ,I can claim that I have understood Kundalini Shakti. But as little understanding that I have, I will describe it accordingly. The rest, you people yourself are scholars, so you should think on it. Our body is a combination of five elements - Earth, water, fire, air and sky. And our Sushumna has six chakras. this also has been told. The first five chakras represent the five elements. The Kundalini Shakti is said to be sleeping in the Muladhar chakra. That she is sleeping making three and a half coils

Muladhara Chakra is the symbol of the Earth element. It represents the Earth element. Here I would like to mention one more important thing, on which there have been a lot of discussion always. The earth is round or square or flat? There was such a controversy going on. So all I have to say in this is that - the planet Earth is round, it has a round shape. And the symbol of earth element is yellow colored square and it's flat. So people were confused between the symbol of the Earth Element and the shape of the planet Earth. This is the only issue. So I was telling you that the basic power is sleeping in the Earth element. So we can directly conclude that the basic force which belongs to the earth element.

… five directions are five pranas, because whatever you’re doing on Mother Earth – and they are considered Earth energies as well. When you’re invoking some astral being – you’re invoking it on Earth.

when we read about using power of Varuna and Nirriti – they are vedic gods, which are gone now – it means that the system is not working now?

Guruji: no, Varuna is like Poseidon, he rules all the water, and Nirriti is direction – south-west. It is different thing.

so Varuna is like Bhairav, but on the water?

Guruji: Bhairav literally is someone, who looks after. You can call him Bhairav of the water. Varuna is the name of the deity, who rules the water.

he’s connected with Shiva somehow?

Guruji: everything connects with the Time.

Kundalini is depicted like having 3,5 coils around svayambhu lingam in muladhara?

Guruji: yes, every chakra has own lingam. Reflection of Shiva. Kundalini of bright red color.

again about Kundalini: watered by the nectar you should to move her back?

Guruji: we discussed it in Hatha Yoga Pradipika: when she reaches the top, she goes to sleep. You have to make her move again.

in the returning in the middle of sushumna, washing by amrita, you should honor her in every petal when it stops. It stops?

Guruji: it will stop to take a look around like a tourist. I will tell you – it is a gradual process which described in two lines. It is not suddenly triggers and reaches everything – it awaken in degrees. Suddenly nobody will tolerate that. The body will burst.

so when it goes up – it also stops?

Guruji: as it will continue to develop: stopping means developing of that particular chakra. And remember: Kundalini is consciousness. They are trying to say it in ornamental way. When you poke a cobra – she suddenly goes like this( show the standing cobra). They are giving a simile – the same way it is disturbed – it also rises itself and that is your consciousness. Until unless you will provoke it – it will not wake up. Nobody wants to do hardwork.

It is extension of the brain – so it is exploration of the brain only, of the mind and the brain. You can not separate the spinal cord from the brain. For anatomical discussions and for doctors they say – it is spinal cord, but it is an extension of the brain. It is like switching on the subconscious mind. Before the subconscious mind becoming conscious nobody can say the Kundalini woke up and consciousness is flying high, nothing. At 98% it is sleeping. It is like waking up a giant – Kumbhakarna from Ramayana.

is it possible situation that Kundalini reaches the top and then remains there without second step?

Guruji: if somebody will be able to take her there – I’m sure he must have a very competent Guru and he will guide him this. He should not worry about that. And it can not happen accidently. It’s not possible.

in so much books is written so…

Guruji: they must take the evidence of awaken Kundalini. Most of the ancient texts say that the person will become immortal. And great knowledge will come. They spend the time to describe that particular experience – but what is the expression, what have been done? What is there expression around? Nothing. But they are able to express people who give them money – that is their expression.

GORAKHBODH, THE KUNDALINI WAY

Gorakhbodh comment to shloka 51: Kundalini is by herself attached to prana?

Guruji: yes

but in all other books it is said that it is all our efforts and force to rise it?

Guruji: see, this is a very simple thing: only through navel everything is created – including the power of Kundaliini. So the navel is the main key point: that’s why they gave the so much importance to that – bank naal and all these things.

but from muladhar up to nabhi Kundalini goes by herself, without any efforts from our side?

Guruji: when it wakes up

and after nabhi we need some efforts to rise it more?

Guruji: no, it will go by herself. Then it will go to sleep.

so we are making all the efforts only for waking it up – then the process is automatical?

Guruji: we have already clear all your different obstacles for doing it; you have already taking prana and apana: when it will rise – it will go up.

so the main thing is to open the door and wake it up?

Guruji: yes. Nabhi will remain the creative force always.

where exactly in the brain Kundalini goes to sleep?

Guruji: I think in medulla oblongata.

but it’s different from agya chakra?

Guruji: bhrumadhya is between the eyebrows and agya chakra is on the opposite side. And the medulla oblongata also controls your breathing pattern: so you’re without breathe or in suspended animation. Then it continue to sleep till you wake it up again. Then it penetrates the subconscious. Then through medulla oblongata it goes somewhere inside the brain: this is what we describe in Shambhavi mudra.

Kundalini enters sahasrara chakra through the tallu?

Guruji: it starts from tallu, yes.

it’s like the inner gate?

Guruji: that’s the only way to sahasrara. To stimulate it or to make it conscious or something. There is no other way.

… that is the result of keval kumbhaka and Shambhavi mudra. It’s not the state of suspended animation. With the extraordinary practice this thing will become easy to you.

so here prana is inside?

Guruji: already inside. In the last shloka of Hatha Yoga Pradipika Gorakhnath says this: if the vayu is not enter the madhyama marg, all this thing has not happen – then the talking about knowledgeable thing is just nothing. He’s already described it here.

this is not the state of kevala kumbhaka?

Guruji: it is sahaj: when everything is mastered – it becomes easy to you.

is this the profound technic of kevala kumbhaka?

Guruji: it is all sum total result of all technics. When you know, how it is done and you have done it.

DEHI PART 2 SHAKTI INSIDE YOU

but the mind is the part of dehi?

Guruji: that is for you to find out. They are two separate powers: dehi lives in the heart. As we were discussing on Kriya yoga: when you do khechari – it is said that the Brahma granthi opening is take place. That means: brahma is your mind, and when you’re doing khechari and all the practice – then you begin to be aware of the greatness of your mind – and it’s the vast ocean of consciousness.

Then after experiencing it for some time your awareness goes to the heart. Without of support of the heart your brain will die. Then you concentrate on the heart and discover the mystery of the heart; how heart came into be.

Then your attention goes to the navel – because only through navel the whole body were created, even the heart was created. Then you considered the navel, where female power of creativity is sleeping.

Then after you become to be aware of the earth element – the most powerful element: without earth element nothing is possible; then you go to muladhar. It’s step up program: very slowly you become aware of the things- who is supporting whom. Then you’re a wise man after that. That is a journey of Kriya yoga.

My discover is: the power of Shakti is inside your navel.

When man and woman come together – they trigger a certain reaction in female body, which can create another body- and connection is with the navel of the fetus, which female power is creating inside. When it is created completely and replica of mother or father is delivered and the cord was cut– then the power of creation of a female goes to sleep in the navel of the newborn. If somehow you’re able to activate the navel – the power of creation will switch on again. Now you know the very great mystery. Shakti, the female power is sleeping in the navel. There are different methods which we’re practicing Kriya yoga – only by the grace of Adi Shakti somebody’s navel will start to working that way because Shakti is sleeping there. That is Shakti, who is able to create your heart and your whole body. You will realize the female power inside you, in the navel. If you will be able somehow to activate it – then the new chapter will begin.

the center of this puzzle is dehi?

Guruji: he’s simply animating your body. The body may become one day enough intelligent to wake up – the sleeping giant, which is in your brain, subconscious. Maybe only for that.

WHAT IS KUNDALINI

connection between 2000 petal lotus- in muladhara or even more down?

Guruji: in Earth herself. Muladhar is representing the earth.

so we have another 1000-petalled lotus?

Guruji: you can go on and on like 1000000- lotus, but – very simple analyzing from Shailendra Sharma: what is kundalini; everybody is talking about it. You see: they are saying that kundalini sleeps in your muladhar chakra, which has 4 petals and square – symbol of earth element there. That tells me that real Shakti sleeps in the earth element, maybe in Earth herself. When your muladhara chakra opening – you’re directly connecting with the Earth herself. You’re connected and the energy passes through. And you’re directly connected with the planet. Then you know everything.

Why? You read any subject, which is taught in schools and colleges – it is the study of the nature of the planet from different angles. Once you’re connected with the planet itself, the Earth – you will know everything. Very simple analyzing, what kundalini awakening is. From earth element, from muladhar chakra the power enters into you and you’re supercharged. Connected finally and the union takes place – yoga.

that is first time I hear about connection of earth element and Earth?

Guruji: that’s the point: we’re living on Earth. And we still don’t connect earth element with Earth. Where we should connect earth element? Nobody knows. Every study is the study of the nature of the planet.

that connection is not mentioned in Hatha Yoga Pradipika?

Guruji: they are not describing chakras there. But one shloka is there: otherwise Earth will not be happy. If you’re not connect with it – why she’s going to be happy?

for what we’re need other elements? Or we’re going from up to down?

Guruji: we’re coming from up to down – but the real power remains in the earth element. Only by awakening this we’re connecting all five elements in right proportion; and maybe immortality or great wisdom will come.

if we’re connected with the consciousness with Earth – we already know the consciousness of water, fire element?

Guruji: they are all part of Earth. They are not so separate. You remember the story of creation of the Earth from Madhu and Kaitabha’s fat? That means if Madhu and Kaitabha are prana and apana and when subconscious mind is actually able to sort of control them and they allow subconscious mind to kill them – then so many different creations begin to float in the ocean of your consciousness.

maybe Ramayana and Mahabharata can be connected with some great yogis, who merged into the consciousness of the Earth?

Guruji: like avatar – wherever some avatar or immortal appears – the great destruction follows. Don’t look at me: when I was set – the second world war was already over.

it is described that chakras are tied between two thousand-petals lotuses – one in sahasrara and one in muladhara?

Guruji: in Earth herself. Muladhara is representing the Earth.

so we have the second thousand-petals lotus there?

Guruji: well, you can go on to say about million-petals lotus or billion-petals lotus – you can go on describing. very simple analyzing from me: what is awakening of kundalini, everybody is talking about? You see, they say that kundalini is sleeping in your muladhara chakra – it has four petals and a square – symbol of earth element there. That tells me – the real Shakti is sleeping in the earth element, maybe in Earth herself. When your muladhara chakra is opening – you’re directly connecting with the Earth herself. that connection is missing in Hatha Yoga Pradipika?

Guruji: they are not describe chakras here. But there is one shloka which says about yogins- otherwise Earth will not be happy. If you will not connect with it – why she is going to be happy?

why exactly apana rises and takes Kundalini which is sleeping in the middle?

Guruji: Kundalini is the main power from earth element. Apana movement is downward; when you’re reversing the breath – it will start to rise and the power of earth element will rise with it.

Shakti is moving by shankhini path without physical movement?

Guruji: initially with physical movement, then when you have mastered it – no physical movement.

Kundalini moved by yogin without fear – time frame of half an hour…

Guruji: one and a half hour, yes

…Kundalini goes to sushumna and a little bit rise: what does it mean – a little bit?

Guruji: it goes to muladhar first; prana mixing with apana in the heart then go to muladhar: then with constant practice it may start to enter. A little.

what does it mean – moving without fear if it is inert?

Guruji: you will always fear what you don’t know; it is just like diving into the ocean without learning to swim – great fear will follow.

so first without Kundalini we just practice this movement in shankhini nadi?

Guruji: prana and apana combines and becomes one.

I don’t understand what we’re moving without fear for 1,5 hour if Kundalini is inert?

Guruji: why don’t you think from a different point of view? Only when prana mixed with apana, and then they reach muladhar – then the sleeping power of the earth element will stir up and wakes up: then the combination of all these three is called Kundalini. That’s why it is called 3,5 rounds there: prana, apana and the earth element’s main power – all three, combined becomes Kundalini.

what is that half?

Guruji: when it enters inside – that half is complete. This explanation has never been given in the history of mankind. Ladies and gentlemen, it was Shailendra Sharma talking!

ELEMENT OF THE EARTH

I have questions on the 15th chapter of Gita: when Krishna is describing three stages of the mind – sattvic, rajasic and tamasic states; are these conditions of the mind corresponds to the five different stages of awakening, dreaming, deep sleep, turiya , turiyatita?

Guruji: Yes, we can say that. And beyond the three gunas there is turiya: turiya literally means fourth state of mind. Many people have tried to explain it, using different words – like jagrat, swapna, sushupti and then fourth state of mind. We can collaborate them.

Consciousness of Earth and the practice was it ever described by any lineage as connected with the practice of Kriya?

Guruji: This is the first time in my lineage I’m talking about Earth and Earth consciousness; and maybe even though so many things are plainly written in so many books, but very few people actually have noticed them.

Take Kundalini for instance: it is supposed to be situated in muladhar, which is the center of the earth element and a symbol of it is a golden square. That tells me that the real power of consciousness is in the earth element. So awakening means: you’re taking a sort of awakening of the consciousness of the power of the earth element and which is connecting all the 5 elements together and reaching your brain and you’re becoming sort of superconscious after that.

This is my observation, that the main consciousness belongs to the earth element. That’s why I’m discussing so much on Earth, which somehow previous people – maybe missed that point or they didn’t talk about it or whatever.

So we can call it Your personal discovery?

Guruji: I became aware of it, yes.

at first we achieve Samadhi and after this develop chakras or vice versa?

Guruji: I think chakras will begin to develop after Samadhi. It’s continuous process. I will quote Lahiri Mahasaya here and I think this is the ultimate statement from him: after 4400 samadhis the mental state becomes something different. I think only this much can be said about it. The process has already begun so it will reach certain results. Carry on!

what is the function of the chakras?

Guruji: they are like power junctions. When they are develop – the energy passes through and the consciousness flows. This is the only way to awake your subconscious mind.

Kundalini is much more deeper than 3’5 coils. Every human body is 3’5 hand measure. Almost 3’5 matras – you must go much deeper than that. The coil of Kundalini may represent your physical body also, the different formations and pronunciations “OM” also which creates extraordinary resonance and vibration inside your brain – they all are connected. Only Gorakhath is talking about 8 coils – when it is going up it is moving in different patterns. With 8 coils 8 siddhi may come. It’s state before second awakening.

the rising Kundalini pierce the chakras and takes the vital breath to the moon sphere; this is the cause of crossing vajras and closing of the nine doors?

Guruji: it is sort of the description of Yoni mudra. It takes place then, especially when you’re doing it in siddhasana.

WHAT IS RAJAS

could we ask You some questions from Hatha Yoga Pradipika, chapter on Shakti Chalini? When Kundalini of the yogi already rose – he can control its movements?

Guruji: yes

what is its movements here?

Guruji: prana and apana combines and you’re able to control them taking up and down and moving them inside your brain: that is controlling of its movements. And you will be able to control many of your involuntary actions. You will become so conscious how everything in your body, every organ – how it is working and it will grant some control over the movements.

and if you feel something is wrong – you can correct it by the mind?

Guruji: yes, but usually nothing is wrong. But if something happened – yes. On this level practice will automatically cure it.

when the bindu is connecting with rajas?

Guruji: up there, yes. Rajas is the property of the female energy and bindu is in the mind; when Kundalini is the female power from the earth element, Earth is female: their union is called technically as bindu and rajas. Rajas is the power of female.

why Kundalini is moving inside the subconscious mind?

Guruji: you see, Kundalini and consciousness are one and the same: subconscious mind – when it’s start moving – it will wake up; it is as good as awakening of Kundalini.

…Kundalini which is sleeping on the brain, which can be described like a coils of a snake or like a very thin wrapped clothes. Whatever yogi trying to describe it in Hatha Yoga Pradipika, they are describing it literally, exactly. But because of this much knowledge was not available for common people – anathomy, physiology and this and that – so they took the example literally and began to imagine by encasement. It is the consciousness; and Kundalini has 3,5 circles. Conscious, twilight state,subconscious and superconscious.

As the serpent (Sheshnag) upholds the Earth and its
mountains and woods, so is Kundalini the support of all
yoga practices.
Indeed, when by Guru’s grace the sleeping Kundalini is
awakened, all the lotuses (chakras) and knots (granthis)
are pierced.

Then indeed the Sushumna becomes the pathway of prana.
Mind is then free of all connections and death is averted.
The word “ […] ” is used here which is a syno -
nym for Sushumna. “[…] ” means “the state of void
which is the way” . Most people concentrate or focus on an
object. Ideally, mind should become steady without any
object or without any focus. Then one goes beyond death
by understanding the Time essentially.
Sushumna, Shunyapadavi, Brahmarandhra, Mahapatha,
Smashan, Shambhavi, Madhyamarga are all said to be
one and the same.
Sushumna is also called Madhyamarga which means
“the middle way” . Madhyamarga is the state between the
conscious mind and the subconscious mind. And techni -

cally speaking, the ability to make the brain waves go flat
while the body is still alive makes you enter the middle
way. The mudras to achieve this state are now being de -
scribed.
Therefore the Ishvari (supreme creative force) sleeping
at the entrance of Brahma’s door should be constantly
aroused with all the effort by performing the mudras
thoroughly.
