Yoga and Vegetarianism

Yoga and Vegetarianism

I was asked if it is necessary for Yogi to be a vegetarian? It will help. And even if you eat meat, with your sincere practice you will stop eating it automatically. And what about fish and eggs? You will begin to feel sympathy for the fish. You will have sympathy towards animals which the flesh which you are eating. And a new sense of beauty will also come. When a vegetarian looks at a fish or a bird he appreciate the beauty of it. But when a meat eater looks at a fish or a bird he pictures it cooking somewhere and his mouth waters. So the sense of beauty is different.

About Vegetarianism

Vegetarianism: ritual exceptions, preference, industry and compassion

"[ ..... that book] also gives an idea about the kind of food that was popular in old days. For example, if someone is very weak, he used to be suggested different kinds of meat-soups. Like with some medicines use goat-meat etc. Some things make immediate change in man's strength."

"Then why is eating meat prohibited or considered inappropriate by Hindus?"

"It is prohibited because dead body is considered impure or unholy. Meat comes from a dead body, a corpse. It has medicinal use, and offered to ancestral spirits, but is prohibited in daily use. For mortal offering to ancestral spirits it is considered appropriate - even different kinds of meats are prescribed in different situations. You can find these descriptions in Kurma Purana, Manu Smriti etc. Meats were used for after-death rites and medicinal purposes. It wasn't considered necessary for healthy people as eating dead things would destroy the purity/holiness of body and give rise to impure thoughts in mind."

"What about the common argument that plants also live?"

"Understood that plants also die, but there's obviously a difference between plants and those in which the life-blood flows. There's no end to arguing, you can argue either way. There was a movie we were watching. Was a comedy - the hero would become a werewolf at night.. in one scene, the girlfriend asked "Do you trust me?". The man replied "Are you a vegetarian? I only trust vegetarians". [laugh]

About Vegetarianism

Health generalizations, taste and preparation

In-fact, vegetarianism is getting popular, though slowly; this is very encouraging. Doctors also suggest to go off meat - like avoid eating red meat etc. Diseases like arthritis, weakening of digestive juices even cancer are more common in those who eat meat. Those whose staple diet consists of grains etc usually don't suffer from arthritis. They are healthier on an average. Heart problems are not very common among them. Take even cancer, number of cancer patients you'll find among meat eaters will be much more compared to vegetarians. Well, people must have started noticing this. There could be one or two coincidences, not hundreds or thousands!"

"I guess ultimately it all comes down to taste."

"That's true. But imagine two kinds of meals - one from an Indian feast where you'll have tens of kinds of Dals, rice, puddings, salads, curries, snacks and vegetables etc and just next to it another one with a tandoori chicken or steak or beef leg etc. Which one would appeal to our taste buds? Of course, for us, its the first one. With the second one you can immediately sense the sighs or curses of the chicken or the dying pig [laugh]. Well, its bound to affect your mood too. At least the first meal doesn't have the curse of a dying being! [laugh] Nobody can say that the rice pudding is cursed or there's a cold sigh coming out of vegetable curry [laugh]. Mood after eating the meal should be good. There's another point. If you are making potato curry, you won't feel bad or revulsion at the idea of cutting or peeling a potato. On the other hand, if you are making a chicken dish, imagine what you have to go through. First, you'll have to remove feathers, then take the guts out, clean it up boil it etc. Compared to peeling a potato and frying it there's a huge difference! The atmosphere will be complete different. Go to a meat market in the US, you'll see hundred of cows skinned and cut and on the other hand go to a vegetable stall to buy tomatoes. There's a big difference and makes a lot of difference. Even most of the non-vegetarians can't actually kill and prepare the meat of the animal by themselves!"

About Vegetarianism

Subsistence, industry, compassion and independent observation

"Now, the concept of hunting in olden times was a different."

"How so?"

"Well, they didn't have anything to eat so they hunted an animal and ate it - that can be understood. It could be considered natural as many animals do that too. However, this industry built around selling meat is not right. If you have the guts, hunt for yourself! I'm pretty sure that 90% of people will give up eating meat if they had to hunt and kill the animal for their own food!"

"No one can watch killing an animal".

"That's true. Now there's talk about compassion and love and on the other hand their mouths will water at the sight of a lamb! What kind of compassion is this? Jesus Christ is also shown in pictures with a sweet smile and carrying a lamb in hands. Who knows whether the smile on his face is of real compassion towards the small animal or due to the anticipation of pleasure of devouring a tasty meal of it? [laugh]. Its still an unanswered question! This question should be raised - it is known that he was not a vegetarian - was he taking that lamb to the kitchen or was he just carrying it with love? [laugh] Probably no one can answer that. This should really be found out [laugh]."

"This world is very fascination, interesting. Important thing is that the observations should be unbiased and independent, then only it becomes interesting. Otherwise, what's the point."

APHORISM

Aphorism collection: liberation, traditions, kutastha, dharma and spirit's emotions

I don’t want to go from Braj – Krishna’s playground. I considered myself fortunate and lucky to be here. This is maybe the biggest vegetarian area in the entire world. Here are millions of kitchens where even onion and garlic has never entered – this is the biggest pure vegetarian area.

what is the problem with onion and garlic?

Guruji: they just don’t eat – because of the smell or something.

because in any yoga text they are not mentioned. In Hatha Yoga Pradipika they are not in the list.

Guruji: agree, there they are not mentioned. Main point is – the largest pure vegetarian area.

maybe this restriction connected with Rahu?

Guruji: no, when you take it the body smell increases and the breathe becomes faster. If you eat them much. Very simple thing – when a person is eating raw onion in salad and after he is trying to kiss you – it’s not a pleasant thing. And Radha and Krishna – it’s pure love.

THE CORRECT MANTRA

You’ve got the recipe of mercury from sadhu; You’ve got mantra from other person: so most precious things are not available in the books.

Guruji: hints are there. And I like the saying in English: no one can be an alien. There always should be some interact.

I remember when we discussed Mantra Mahodadhi You said that there are mistakes or deliberately confusions in every mantra?

Guruji: but general rules are given there! That means when you have received the mantra – you need to follow certain rules. Because a Guru might be in a hurry: he just gave you mantra – then you have to do research how to do it exactly.

but in the body of mantra everything was correct?

Guruji: sometimes there are difference in printed mantras. That’s for you to find out!

do You know that Blavatskaya in her book said that there is more than 5 elements – there are 2 more and she will give the information about them to the humanity?

Guruji: I’ve already said it: 2 more is prana and apana. Everybody keep missing them.

YOGA PRACTICE AND ALCOHOL

If we look back in history – all great warriors: no one was having six packs. They were very strong people. Even if we look at greek system of exercises with weights: there is no direct exercise for abdomen muscles. Only the ancient figure of Hercules is showing every muscle. Even Apollo is not showing six packs. It’s just show muscle – but it’s look good, if you have it. I think more than hardwork – it’s more depending on genetics.

time to time people are asking what do You think about alcohol and wine?

Guruji: I actually keep the very open mind if someone is not practicing yoga.

Only for a yogi it’s not a good idea to take any form of intoxication – wine or some drug or something because it will directly affect your consciousness, your sight, your mind and your nervous system. For a yogi it’s a bad idea.

But if somebody’s not practicing yoga – let them enjoy. We’re not going to change the society. If somebody asks – give them good advice. Bad for a yogi. And also very good for the government and good taxes – somebody’s taking lot of benefits.

so it’s not possible to combine yoga practice and a little bit…?

Guruji: the results will not be good. When you’re accomplish something – maybe you can try, - but you will not try them.

practice gives higher states?

Guruji: and it’s clean and pure high. Nor alcohol neither drugs will give you meditative or dhyana state; but the practice of yoga is giving you that.

what do You think about using protein?

Guruji: I don’t like this word – “protein”. All romans and greek gladiators were given the vegetarian food. Milk was the main thing; even in indian wrestling the best is considered milk and almonds. You don’t need to categorize. This categorization is only good for business. Too much protein – your kidneys will go away. Instead of fast food take good food. All mothers and grandmothers were knowing, what is good food. And they were arguing for eating outside food from the very beginning. Listen to them.

what do you think about that concept – that cannabis is friend of Shiva?

Guruji: I’ve been bidding on Shiva for 40 years and nowhere I came across, that he’s smoking cannabis.

so it’s misconception?

Guruji: and with misconception miscarrying is following.

I saw so much sadhus, using this herb?

Guruji: in yoga it’s especially given suggestion: never use any type of intoxication – it destroys your consciousness.

in Gita there is mentioning about medicines?

Guruji: medicine is not cannabis. Cannabis having the medicinal effect also – in Ayurveda it is written in details; but there they are talking about different medicines, different herbs.

why it’s not recommend to eat cottage cheese when you’re practicing yoga?

Guruji: it will always give you nightmares. And you will eat so much bacteria.

from where we get the proteins?

Guruji: forget about proteins, it’s a new concept. Human race survives thousands of years without worrying of proteins. Too much proteins will spoil your kidneys.

what do you think about sport proteins?

Guruji: I don’t know – I’ve never take supplements in my life.

Every child, who is taking birth on this planet – by birth he is a hindu. And only after certain period they are baptized to a certain religion. Till then they are natural – they are hindus. Every person is born free, - then he becomes Christian, then he becomes musalman, then he becomes Buddhist.

in Hatha Yoga Pradipika they mentioned that you should not combine a lot of physical work with Kriya yoga?

Guruji: I think you need to be strong and fit, because only strong body can support strong mind.

they are talking about overtraining?

Guruji: they’re writing – you don’t need to lift heavy weights and you don’t have to walk too much – that means you can lift moderate weights and you can walk slightly less. Create a balance. And no protein shakes or supplies are needed. Definitely you can look good, strong and shapely.

we can look like you

Guruji: thank you for the great compliment

what do you think about extreme diets in tantra and aghora?

Guruji: not for a yogis.

GURUJI ABOUT GUNAS

Food and karma — buying, self-cooking and cooks

FOOD AND KARMA

You told us the very interesting observation that karma started when the men started to cook food; and out of that the question comes: could I cook for myself? Or better someone else will do it?

Guruji: you are not producing everything which you’re using for cooking: so if you’re buying and money is there then karmic involvement is also there. It’s very subtle thing.

how is important to cook by yourself?

Guruji: I think if your well-wisher or friend is cooking – the food will have different flavour. Many people cook by themselves: many sadhus I’ve see – they cook by themselves; it is the best if you’re able to do that.

what happens with karma of people who are professionals in cooking?

Guruji: if you’re paying them – it’s fine. But their mental state will affect the food. That effect will always be there.

and for their karma – how it will be?

Guruji: well, I’ve see most old cooks are suffering in the end. You cannot be a paramahamsa.

so it’s not the best business and not the best job?

Guruji: no, it’s fine – only from the yogic perspective it is different.

what I observe – with the time they start to feel themselves that they are nearly gods

Guruji: I’ve just told you, if the person really cares for you – then the food will have some good affect. Otherwise it’s just a life- sustaining program. And they mentality will go down into the few; and it will directly affect your mentality as well.

what I observe in our city: if the person is the main cook of some restaurant – his ego grows up to the sky?

Guruji: yes, I have seen such cases. I think self- cooking is the best - or family cooking.

in ancient times the attitude was different: you cannot become a cook just because of fashion?

Guruji: that was the way of feeling, to which caste you belong.

You can buy food from the market and cook yourself.

but it will also create karma – because I pay money and they give me something?

Guruji: if he is not honest enough than he will suffer. That is his problem.

and what about living in the jungle and just picking up coconuts and bananas?

Guruji: no problem! But don’t wear banana leaves: they will not last long!( smiling)

the best is to cook for one time, not carry it too long?

Guruji: yes, you cook then eat- that is the best.

Healthy food and alcohol — the yogic stance and diet

HEALTHY FOOD; ALCOHOL;

from time to time people are asking about alcohol, wine – what do you thinking from the yogic point of view?

Guruji: I keep a very open mind, if someone is not practicing yoga. Only for a yogi it is not a good idea to take any form of intoxication – is it wine or drug or something, because it have directly affect your consciousness, your sight, your mind and your nervous system. For a yogi it’s a bad idea.

But if somebody is not practicing yoga – let them have it. We’re not going to change the society: if somebody ask me personally – I give him good advice. It’s bad for a yogi. And very good for government, they have good taxes and benefits from it.

so it’s not possible to combine yoga practice with a little bit…?

Guruji: No. results will not be good. When you’re accomplish something – maybe you can try, but actually you will not try. Practice gives the higher states, which are clean and pure.

I think all intoxicators have a little bit same effect – but it’s destructible?

Guruji: they’re not give you meditating or dhyana-like state. But the practice of yoga is giving you that.

I don’t like to hear that word – “protein”. Remember, gladiators and roman soldiers were taking vegetarian food – the main component was milk. Alcoholics go straight to 'HEVEN'

ALCOHOLICS GO STRAIGHT TO HEVEN

When I was in college - I had a friend, who was a sort of a drunkard- always drinking and drinking.

So we were after him: why are you drinking so much? You should not do it, it’s not good for health. And he always will say: I will go straight to heaven.

I said: how?

And his logic is perfect: he said: you see, I drink – and then I go to sleep. A sleeping person commits no sin. He, who commits no sin – goes to heaven. So, let me drink! ( smiling). But please, don’t follow this advice!( smiling)

HOW TO ESTABLISH IN BRAHMACHARYA?

NUTRITION IN A BRIEF — listen to the body, vegetarian list

NUTRITION IN A BRIEF

what about of taking sugar?

Guruji: just listen to your body. You will become very sensitive as a result of yoga practice, it’s the effect: so just listen to your body. Accept those food which body accepts; others you reject.

which food must be rejected for the yogi?

Guruji: we recommend vegetarian diet. Anything: list is given in Hatha Yoga Pradipika – just consult it.

MOST BEAUTIFUL FEATURE

Nutritional balance for yogis

NUTRITIONAL BALANCE FOR YOGIS

What practices are most effective in reducing the body's dependence on food?

Guruji: No, the fasting is not recommended in yoga practice. It will make you weak, and a weak person's ability to think rationally also disappears. Make yourself strong. Eat just enough which body needs. No, too much or too less is not recommended, just enough. Ah, no, he, it is part of his self-awareness also how much food your body actually needs, and he will discover it.

Sometimes we eat too much and sleep too much. Find the exact point. See, stomach is not running after the taste, only your tongue is getting commission of taste. So give the stomach enough. Don't go to the tongue.

Mixed DNA memories and the meat-eaters' ghosts

Guruji: their DNA memories mixed and changed. That’s why meat-eaters ghosts looks very horrible: it has touch of every animal they have eaten. They somehow connects with their spirits and looks very horrible. Astral body is very bad.

by seeing the astral body you can say – was the person vegetarian or not?

Guruji: yes. You even no need to look at the astral body: just look at man’s face – it’s enough.

Onions, garlic and the story of Rahu

Onion, garlic and the story of Rahu

why it is allowed to eat onion for the yogis? There is rajas in that…

Guruji: rajas? No, that is idiotic thing. You don’t know the story? I’m not a krishnait, but we follow what Krishna said in Gita.

Rahu was daitya; when after churning of ocean the amrita came, the giver of immortality, Rahu changed himself – he began to look like a god, sat with the gods and drink. Then the Sun and Moon point it out to Vishnu and Vishnu cut his head. But because he has already drunk amrita, he didn’t die. The blood drops, falling from his head, - garlic grew. And from his body the blood flew – the onions came.

Because they were born out of the blood of Rahu – so krishnaits and very pure people – they don’t eat it. But they have very great ayurvedic properties because some portion of amrita they are still carrying.

According to Gita: the food, which doesn’t go bad after a long time of retaining without refrigeration, can be eaten. And you can eat onion and garlic for months without refrigeration. But it doesn’t mean it used to be kilograms of garlic and onion every day – just a little touch is enough.

Onions, garlic and the story of Rahu

Sattvic food and the practical uses of onion and garlic

what do You think about these terms – sattvic food, rajasic or tamasic food?

Guruji: I will say - any vegetarian food is sattvic. Whichever suits you and no bad smell comes out you – then it’s a good food.

Garlic is considered to have so many things to the body, enhances the immune system; same with onion also. To avoid the heat stroke: you just keep an onion in your pocket – and the stroke will not hit you. Also the sulfur is processed with onion: without onion it will be never complete. In the summer time many people eat onions to cool the system and avoid the heat stroke. Heat stroke is a serious matter. Keep it in your pocket and you will avoid the heat stroke even in Sahara.

You take one onion, put it in your armpit: in 10 or 15 minutes you will have high fever. Put it away – it will cool down.

Onions, garlic and the story of Rahu

Alcohol, the Shiva chillum belief and halahala

very often they’re saying that they are so high that nothing can harm them: for example they can drink alcohol – and they’ll be not intoxicated?

Guruji: but again – if he’s really so high spiritually, the desire of drinking alcohol will not be there.

again it’s common belief that Shiva Ji is smoking chillum and using drugs?

Guruji: we have never across any account that He is smoking chillum: read Shiva Purana and every book – nowhere. He drink halahala also: so drink halahala! Take one portion of deadly poison every day – then we will see, are you fit enough for smoking chillum. Never compare these people with Shiva himself. They are not that thing.

gurujidarshan.com · original page · the whole Darshan

Onions, garlic and the story of Rahu

The ironic greatness test and Kriya with wine

I asked this question because usually they are saying: you must holding the discipline because your level is not so high: when you will achieve – you will understand?

Guruji: then I will say: if someone is really achieve something – he will never drink less than one liter of vodka every day. Never eat less than 400 grams cannabis every day. He will not smoke less than at least 24 chillums of marijuana and all these things put together– all of that together every day; then we will believe – he is really great man. Then we will take garlands, go to pay our respect and do arati. They should mix hashish, ganja, marijuana, mescaline, ayahuasca, everything – fill up the big chillum and then smoke 24 chillums a day. Then it is very high thing. Also they should make a paste of the bhang 400 grams, mix it with one bottle of vodka and drink it every day: then they are high spiritually. If they cannot tolerate it – then I will have my doubts. I’m very happy I’m not that high yet. Only water is good enough for me, maybe some chai. That is a good formula: mix the 400 grams of bhang with one bottle of vodka and drink. Also add 100 grams of the datura seeds – you will be in nine cloud then. and also mix mescaline and every drug – I don’t know the name – mix all them together, create a small tablets and take at least 50 tablets a day. Then you’re very high spiritually. If you’re very high spiritually – it will not affect you.

if someone practice Kriya yoga and drink the wine from time to time?

Guruji: it’s nothing. Ultimately it’s not good – because the desire to drink wine with the practice will not remain.

is it bad for the practice?

Guruji: anything which affects your mind will have bad effect on your practice. So any kind of intoxication – if you’re trying to develop your mind and the brain – than it’s not a good idea. If you take very less – it’s nothing. On the higher levels mixing of such things is not possible, I’ve never seen any example.

1 bottle of vodka, 400 grams of bhang, 100 grams of the datura seed and 50 grams of shilajit: mix them and drink. They will start to do everything without being affected.

SHAKTIPATH, ONLY THE GURU DECIDES

Diet — no sweets, fruits of karma, camel milk, and never taking vitamins

You have some favourite sweet or any food before You practiced Kriya?

Guruji: no sweets. Nothing in particular - I never was so favourite in sweets or something.

some fruits?

Guruji: maybe one banana. Now only fruits of karma. Any other body doesn’t require. Many people told me: you require so much protein, you require so much vitamin, so much this, so much that; I just answered - I'm fine. Now I have two glasses of camel milk: one in the morning, one before practice.

have You ever took some multi-vitamin complex?

Guruji: nothing. From my childhood I was never too keen for eating. Small portions from the beginning. My diet was the same when my bodyweight was 100 kilos: how it increase I still don’t know. I was not even thinking about it and bench pressing 300 pounds without any protein or something. Even now diet is almost same, no big change: one extra glass of camel milk.

I think You also often been asked: where You get the B-group vitamins, You are vegetarian; from where You get amino acids? From where You got protein?

Guruji: I've never took vitamins or amino acids. One time I tried some protein powder: but it didn’t agree with me. Feeling became very bad. Maybe 3-4 days only.

SIX LINES OF TIME

Appearance, diet, alchemy, reactions and honour

FOOD AND CONSCIOUSNESS

Last lockdown there were only 16 corona patients found in Govardhan. Two were coming from outside after going through some treatment or hospitals; and they were all belonging to the businessman class. Out of those 16 3 died from cancer or heart attack – but everybody survived. This year, the most severe second wave: only 2 patients, both survived. Absolutely no corona surrounding this area, which we considered as a direct grace from Giriraj.

Very pure life here?

Guruji: Very pure life and spiritual vibration and the energy from Giriraj Ji is supporting it.

What do You think about meat eaters? I think they suffer much more because of a different immune system?

Guruji: Of course; so many DNA mixes are taking place inside their bodies, so many animal memories.

I don’t think an animal is very happy when you’re taking him for slaughtering. “oh, I’m very happy, my life made my meat and now my meat will be converted into shit, I will achieve emancipation” – I don’t think any animal is thinking like this. Their emotions will put a very strong imprint on your own consciousness. That’s why as a yogi I say: only vegetarian diet is advocated, because it doesn’t give you these depressing impressions and your consciousness remains pure; even your system remains pure. I think every animal has the same right to live on this planet.

In these two years I absolutely changed my attitude towards animals and even insects…

Guruji: Until unless he’s trying to kill you- you don't have to bother them. Even all these dogs, even the camel are teachers. When I first drank that camel’s milk – for more than 2-3 weeks I had dreams of desert, and sand, and some people fighting; I mean with the impressions she saw. Now I see only green things – because she’s here and it’s so very green. We should have some pets: it will make you more telepathic and sensitive. This team of dogs is good.

What do You think, who has more connections with the astral world: cats or dogs?

Guruji: Both. Cats are more mysterious, but dogs are directly connected with the astral.

So they see more?

Guruji: They see more; and when the last rituals are done it’s a point to feed the dog- cow, dog, ants, crows: all these four are directly connected. But cats are considered a very different thing here: killing a cat is considered as more of a bigger sin than killing a cow. And to atone for that you have to donate the exact weight of the cat in gold; and from that point you will need to walk to the Ganges and every step you will have to touch the hot coal to your body: that is the atonement of killing a cat. There must be a very big mystery connected with that thing. We’re trying to find out.

"[ ..... that book] also gives an idea about the kind of food that was popular in old days.

[laugh]

VEGETARIAN&MOTHER

Heading and vegetarianism as connection with Mother Earth

VEGETARIAN&MOTHER

We discussed so much about Mother Earth; only vegetarian people maybe able to connect with Mother Earth in a natural way, because their food is growing out of the earth. And those meat eaters and hunters – they are not directly connected with the Earth; they will keep using, devouring everything which is moving over it. Vegetarian is maybe the only way to connect your consciousness with the consciousness of Mother Earth.

“KUMBHAK” MEANS A POT

Sacrifice, meat-eating and compassion

SACRIFICE, MEAT EATING AND COMPASSION

there are description of animal sacrifices in ancient texts; but nowadays I have the strong feeling that there is no need of animal sacrificing in any religion. What do You think about it?

Guruji: people already are eating too much animals.

Now there are another type of human beings - butchers kills, someone orders and others eats. In ancient times only animal, which were sacrificed to certain god were eaten as Prasad. There were no butchers time. Too much of so-called sacrifices now. I’m not against eating meat or I’m not evocating to be vegetarian, but I only say: if you want to eat meat – go, hunt, kill yourself and eat. Don’t buy it from a market. This is my point of view.

I don’t understand, I’m the very simple man – or I’m simply a man – how you can eat chicken and beef and then talk about compassion? I don’t understand it. It’s beyond my understanding how you can at the same time eating an animal and talking about compassion and having pity on others. I’ve tried my best to understand it – but I’ve failed every time.

Very few sacrifices – to Shakti or sometime to Bhairav, otherwise no sacrifices – maybe once in a year, but it’s not a common thing. Very limited way. Even then – we’re yogis and we’re respect life, and I think every animal has the same right to live on this planet like we have. We’re the human beings, we were given some intellect - we can decide on ourselves what to eat and not to eat.

so now money is the god who takes the all lives of animals and fish?

Guruji: not money.

It’s the very simple thing in economy: demand – and it will be supply. No demand – no supply.

Also I like to live here because all over the world it might be the concentrated vegetarian area. Outside I don’t like to go. And I’m sure – not animal is very happy that his meat is sacrificed to some god, he’s very happy that some human eat me, he will become powerful and convert me to shit – I think they’re not very happy being in that situation.

what is the karma for the butchers?

Guruji: to killing the animals. And if you look at them – they look very different than normal people.

You will already go beyond karma effect and leave society behind. They’re still living in the eden garden.

[About diet]

“I never maintained a special diet, whatever used to get cooked in our home. Have always been vegetarian, drank no more than 1 glass of milk everyday. The real secret is in tikkar (Indian roti) – there’s no better diet than daal and roti. “Tikkar se hi body tikti hai” (only roti sustains the body). Sometimes vitamin deficiency happens with heavy workouts, you catch cold easily when you are tired. So some vitamin B and C supplements are more than enough. ”

Q: I read in a book review that according to medical science, rib-case can’t really expand and it’s a myth that body-building expands the rib-cage?

A: “That is all dung. We exercise to go beyond the ordinary. This work-out will definitely expand the ribcage. It’ll also increase the weight, size, and strength.”

“We discussed a lot about body building today (laugh). See, we get only one body in our life, we should keep it nice. It’ll never be replaced.”

Pseudo Spirituality

Pseudo Spirituality

“Yesterday I was watching a famous guru answering questions on TV. Someone asked him, ‘who has more willpower, a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, and if the answer is vegetarian, why did Britishers rule over us for 200 years.’ The question is valid. After thinking for 5 minutes he gave the answer, ‘elephant is vegetarian, horse is vegetarian, monkey is a vegetarian, and most geniuses in the world were vegetarian.’ That’s all and the question was done! Second question from one of his followers, ‘I love money and I love making money. Would be very hard to give it up. Would meditation, reading Gita, etc., give me more ideas to make money?’ His answer after pondering for 2 minutes was, ‘What a greedy man! Just worry about catching Narayana (God); Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth) will follow.’ That was the answer! But both the questions are valid. What is the right answer? For the first question?”

I said I didn’t know.

Guruji laughed. “The answer is simple” he said. “We should remember that when Britishers took control over India, their battle was primarily with non-vegetarian folks. Whoever rulers were there at that time were non-vegetarians – Mughals, Tipu Sultan, and all the other kings. They mostly defeated kings – had nothing to do with common people. The main purpose of the British episode was to remove Mughal Empire from India, Sultanat-E-Mughalia, which they did completely. Bahadur Shah Zafar was dethroned. But it is also a fact that after all the kings, who were all non-vegetarians, laid down their arms in front of the British, they were ultimately defeated and had to leave India by the satyāgraha (“insistence of truth”) of a simple man, Mahatma Gandhi, who was a pure vegetarian. This proves that vegetarian folks had the willpower to remove the non-vegetarians from their country without a fight. Gandhiji was a pure vegetarian and all the satyāgrahis were vegetarians. Makes sense? This has nothing to do with elephants or monkeys.

“For the second question there’s a simple answer as well. He could have quoted Gita itself in which Lord Krishna is saying, ‘I am the trade of the tradesmen.’ If you do your work sincerely and respect it as divine, naturally Lakshmi-ji will come along. There are simple answers to all such questions but they only create confusion and more confusion.”

Diet.

…think from another point of view: all fruit contain the seeds, which is the life source of the plant. So you are actually eating directly the life source of the plant. Of course it will give you more life, more energy. But myself personally I love only the fruit of my karma. As I’m growing old, eating extremely simple way, much less the same; even I’m physically working – the diet is less, not much. My diet is same for many years. Only when my sugar level is getting a little bit higher – I take no sugar, that’s it. I’m not taking honey even before. I’ve been group a lot around with sadhu and learn different things from them – I learn how to survive; the most minimum diet is enough. Everybody who prepares my own food, they all know – I never eat this much less, but I never eat this much more. Same thing year after year after year. And I eat according to the yoga thing: even after eating my lunch or dinner I can do many mahamudras, I don’t need a brake to digest it. I can do now, five minutes after eat – I’m normal with it. Always be ready for action. That’s a point. And there is a big gap from lunch time to night time of food: I’m eating before three and the next meal will be after ten. Same quantity. But I’m drinking chay two-three times. If I’m not talking – even chay is not required. And I’m not eating rice for many years.

MOTHER EARTH FEELS PAIN

MOTHER EARTH FEELS PAIN

Well, nature has created a food chain, and hunting is a very natural thing. Most of the, let’s say, animals — predators they hunt for food.

Only human beings are known to kill for profit. So, hunting is all right. If you want to eat meat or something, go into the jungle, hunt and eat.

What any yogi has said is that going to a butcher shop and just buying it and eating it is not good. Killing commercially is not a good karma.

The one, who is a brahmachari, takes moderate and pure
food, is regular and intent on yoga and renounces (at-
tachment to sensual experiences), becomes accomplished
after a year.
Mitahara is eating agreeable and sweet food, leaving one
fourth of the stomach empty, and eaten to please Shiva.

The foods which are prohibited (for the yogi) are those
which are bitter, sour, pungent, salty, hot, green vegeta -
bles (other than those suggested) , sour gruel, oil, sesame
and mustard, alcohol, fish, meat, curds, buttermilk, horse
gram, fruit of jujube, oil cakes, asafoetida, and garlic.
Try to avoid green vegetables. The leafy green vegetables,
like spinach and others are high in iron content which tend
to constipate you, thus changing your breathing pattern
within just 5-10 minutes. Try to avoid foods that fasten your
breath. If breath does not remain slow and regular, success
in yoga remains doubtful. Y ogi Swatmarama has especially
prescribed to avoid food that is high in iron content. If your
system has more iron, it consumes more oxygen resulting
in faster oxidation and quicker ageing.
”

Unhealthy food should be avoided – food which is reheated
after becoming cold, which is dry (devoid of natural oils),
which is excessively salty or acidic, stale, or has too many
(mixed) vegetables.
Fire, women, and long pilgrimages should be avoided.
Therefore, Gorakshanath has also said: “Bad company,
mixing with women, bathing in the early morning, fast -
ing, and tasks which produce pain in the body should be
avoided. ”
